Swiss Chalet seems to have the lowest standards because an ex-coworker of mine worked there years ago and shared all sorts of stories of things being undercooked, overcooked, leftovers being re-plated and re-served, stuff being dropped on the floor then put back on plates, etc. I am guessing that they have the weakest oversight and standards for their franchises.
Old people love the place, I haven't been in probably two decades.
The places like Montana's, Kelsey's, Applebee's, etc., aren't necessarily bad, they're just mediocre. But Swiss Chalet is bad. The biggest thing is how they train their cooks to make the food, and it's clear that Swiss Chalet isn't doing it very well.

I have had so many bad experiences with Swiss Chalet! I have:
- Ordered a Ceaser Salad only to get a plate of plain lettuce
- Gotten many a dry white chicken that sucks the moisture out of my mouth
- I have gotten many a greasy dark chicken that made me feel awful (they tasted raw)
- Gotten ribs that tasted like plastic
- Once got a bun that made a thunking noise on the table
And much much more. Old people probably love it due to how dry and predictable the chicken is and how dated the decor is. A large step above Scores and KFC but still awful. I also despise their phoney commercials. Family happens at Swiss Chalet! Always So Good For So Little!
. There used to be one across from my work back when I lived in “The Sausage” so they where my last resort. Haven’t been in a year.
