This was a weird case. The neighborhood already has taller buildings. Katy Trail has its own setback and aesthetics guidelines, which were already proposed and met for this building and the building backs to a park and City of HP Parking garage. Yet, the arguments against were height, encroaching on Katy Trail and resident privacy concerns from HP.

High-rise condos in the works for booming West Plano

Quote:
The location is less than 2 miles from the site of Toyota Motor Corp.’s new North American headquarters, which will have about 4,000 workers.
Called Haggard Place, the 8-acre project will start with a 72-unit, 17-story condo tower that’s already being marketed to potential buyers.
The building — which is supposed to start construction later this year — is planned as the first high-rise residential building constructed in the area just south of Legacy business park.
Looks like Park Lane or something in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Good job Plano.

WTF!!!!!!!! I thought Dallas knew better than this. I would expect this in Houston, but not Dallas. Think about coming up from the CityPlace DART Subway station (it is near by right?) and seeing this sh*t. Dallas I am sooo disappointed. I hope this gets stopped!......Or that its a really late April Fools joke.

I'm encouraged by the comments from our citizens in regards to this mockery(from a native-Dallas firm). We have apparently gotten the attention of the city council. There is simply no excuse for this. Too much leeway was given to the Kroger next door. None, should be given here. There's just too much that can be done there. Especially as the neighborhoods around it densify. Hell, the Sam's up the road in Lake Highlands is much better designed than this.

^ Hopefully that is the case (city taking a second look). Just for my info., do you know for certain the city is looking into this.

I would not be opposed to the retail mix in this area, but IMO it should be an anchor to a greater mixed-use development. Office / retail / hotel / etc.... I think what everyone fears most is that once its built, it may be 20 plus years before something would change on such a prime piece of real estate.

Mr. Wilonsky and whoever owns the petition need to note that the problem isn't traffic, the fact that it's a big box retailer, or that the project is "big." The problem is that it's not urban and/or pedestrian friendly. If there was residential above the Sam's and the parking was underground, for example, then this project would be just fine.

I just sent a message to Philip Kingston voicing my opposition for this Sam's Club. This is the type of development that doesn't help the city but rather progress backwards. Now if they want to build a urban Sam’s Club like Whole Foods is doing, with adding apartments on top, and scratching out the huge parking lot of front then I could consider it.

^ Exactly. This only makes me hate Wal-Mart more…I haven't shopped there in years.

I, too, sent a letter to Philip Kingston. He said he's working on it.
