Not sure what Rahm means by lighting the riverwalk. Aren't they about to tear up and rebuild the riverwalk?

Speaking of hotels, there was a building permit issued yesterday to demolish the inside of the London Guarantee Building at 360 N Michigan Ave (this would include a little bit of structural work as well). Estimated cost = $950,000.

Bid docs are out for a new 29-story building just south of the AMLI development on Clark. 400+ units. Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture (Halsted Flats, Maryville, etc)

EDIT: Mistakenly put this in General Developments. Sorry, mods.

Awesome. I didn't expect they'd be going that tall. I'd love to see some art on this.

Do you happen to know the firm for this building?

Yes, as Emathias stated, the Gage owners' restaurant is at the Dearborn/Randolph corner. And, just to be clear - Sandoval isn't leasing a space within the third floor food court - it is all theirs - 22,000 sq ft, for which they will develop and be in charge of all the concepts within....

Also, I have to say to me it sounds very encouraging that CIM Group replaced its leasing brokerage at Block 37. The fact that this happened relatively soon, without dragging it on with some sort of 'issue' whether performance related or whatever the case, is a strong sign that CIM is taking the near-term lease up and openings very seriously.

Plus, Stone is just a small local brokerage. New York-based RKF is much larger (to be quite honest, neither that they are based in New York, nor much larger, can be construed as a negative - as far as getting a superior mix of tenants - retailers, restaurants and entertainment tenants - signed on and opened - not next year or the year after - but later this year!.....it's time!)...

Just to make sure I'm getting this right - I know there's supposed to be an addition on this building, but the main one is to be turned into a nice boutique hotel too right? It's good to see they are making some movement with this one.

^ That is awesome news. The amount of investment capital pouring into Chicago hotel real estate at the moment is incredibly impressive....

I noticed a building permit issued yesterday for 401 N Morgan. This is an old warehouse that's being converted to multi use from the owner of Epic, Public House, Untitled, and Hubbard Inn. This is near 1K where Google and SRAM will move to in a few years.

88K sq ft total. 20K of which will be for a tech/small business incubator, 20K event space, 5K new restaurant, fitness club, coffee shop, etc. Great news and seems like it's right on track based on the following article:

What the...

Less is more definitely applies here. No need to add too much to what is already damn near perfection.

The river is not "perfection" The skyline around it is nice but a lot could be done to it. I guess it depends on what they want to do with it all, but I kind of like it, especially if they can put eateries and stuff in some areas there or make it more active for people. Maybe dim the lights a little though.

I don't know. I moved to New Haven, CT in 2007 and to Hoboken (directly across the Hudson from the Meat Packing District) in 2009 and I genuinely don't see much of a cosmopolitan divide between the different regions. If anything, most places in the U.S. are cosmopolitan by definition.

Perhaps you're thinking of a different feeling/thing that makes sense to your own personal experience of place because I don't believe the word cosmopolitan and Midwestern are in direct competition with one another. Hardly.

Exactly. Bringing the people down to activate the space will be key. "Summer on the River" would be kind of cool. Also, all the buildings feel that much taller the closer you are to the river! I don't like the movie screen on the Merchandise Mart thing though. A bit much.

My first thought as well...that would be hilarious if it was some ploy to get more people from Shanghai to move to Chicago after they visit.
