Those upper floors look like they have really high ceilings suited for retail, and they look too tall to be used for office space.

You said it! I don't know what had gone through the architect here.

Considering how wickedly inefficient the useable area is on those floors, I do wonder if it's suited for any use.

The birdcages and the rectangular planters are a bit ill-conceived when placed together. A curved / wavey railing (to meet patio/alcohol service separation requirements) would have looked better with the birdcages rather than trying to square up the curves.

I spent part of the afternoon watching the buckets of cement go up one after the other from a room at the Kingston. It's a loooong way to the top.

Here's a view of the office tower from a room at the Kingston Hotel. You can get a sense of how much the awnings can shade the interiors at the height of summer.

Pic by me today - they've unveiled the setback on the SW corner.

Cool, so there is that much still to come. I think they will have to increase the south crane one more time.

Architects are generally loathe to criticize each other's work, so if someone risks making a fool of themselves by building garbage like this, there's nobody around to tell them that.

Here are the steel beams they removed and hauled away last week. They had been at the transfer floor between the top two sections. I can't imagine how much that load weighs!

Thank you for echoing my thoughts!! It's a bit politically incorrect not to like this building.

Yeah, maybe you're right. It's the building itself that's an ugly, boxy, pseudo-avant garde piece of shit!! Right gang?

I think this will be a similar fail in the details as the teal spandrel on Nordstrom Howe Street entrance. If only they would have used the darker tone (darker glass?) they have on the Robson street. That would already make it look higher quality.
