What exactly is this project transforming into??

Apartments with a large ground floor commercial space. I believe the unit count is 205.

The large property at 511 Jackson Ave, which also fronts Josephine, has a for sale sign. In addition to two smaller lots at 531/529 Jackson. Would be nice to see more projects rise in that area, hopefully with commercial on the ground floor.

Oh it's coming. There's going to be a good amount of money walking around that area once the River District is up, and anything that can keep it walkable will be good money.

It's a crazy long walk, but if everything is done the way it should, the stretch from Crescent Park all the way to Jackson and St. Charles/Magazine Street will be connected/walkable. Marigny/Bywater, French Quarter, CBD, Warehouse District/South Market, River District/LGD, Garden District OR Magazine Street stretch.

South Market founder acknowledges crime issue, still no timetable for final phase

The Domain Companies, which developed South Market – a $500 million, mixed-use, five-block downtown New Orleans area, has recently gotten involved in the Charity Hospital redevelopment. However, the sixth and final phase of South Market is still in limbo with no timetable. The delay is attributed to high interest rates and construction costs, according to CEO Matt Schwartz.

Wow.. didn’t realize it had gotten that bad around that area of town. Hopefully they can turn it around because it seems like a very upscale area.

I wouldn't be against it. Still close to the Dome to share amenities and can push development on those Loyola Ave parking lots. I know they love those lots for tailgating, but it's time to let it go. Build on it and create new spots.

TBH that's kind of a BS excuse because it's really not. I used to tend bar at Company Burger there for a long time and the reason why all the places have closed is because the office crowd has gone a lot more WFH and there just aren't half as many customers coming in. People just don't stay out as late anymore either. Plus it's getting so expensive here especially since covid and let's be honest most people don't have as much of a disposable income. Here's to hoping the housing bubble bursts and shit gets a lot cheaper.

This was my first thought too - crime isn't particularly bad around there. It's just they haven't quite gotten to a critical mass of residents right there to support all the retail without as many people working immediately nearby. During games and big concerts, that area is absolutely packed with people though. It's one of the safer parts of the city, partly because it doesn't really attract a ton of typical New Orleans tourists. I typically see more people who are local to the region in that area.

GOOD. Should have been done years ago. The fact that locals in the area are against this type of development baffles my mind.

The Dew Drop Inn, located in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, is a former hotel and nightclub that operated between 1939 and 1970, and is noted as “the most important and influential club” in the development of rhythm and blues music in the city in the post-war period. RGGC will be completing an interior and exterior buildout to bring this historic landmark back to life. Since this building has been out of commerce for decades, it will require extensive selective demolition and structural repairs before work on the renovation can begin. The interior renovation includes lodging, a performance stage, multiple bars, entirely updated and new MEP systems, along with a roof replacement for each section of the building. Outside the building, a new pool will be installed along with a bar, storage area, and a bioswale drainage system for stormwater mitigation.

DOTD announces the start of the CCC Decorative Lighting Project
Friday, February 23, 2024 at 12:26:22 PM
New Orleans, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the start of the $20.725 million Crescent City Connection Decorative Lighting Project. The project features LED lights on the trusses and piers of the bridges.

Frischhertz Electric Co. of New Orleans is constructing the project. Frischhertz also worked on the LED lighting project for the Caesars Superdome in 2012.

Work will begin this weekend, and lane closure announcements will be released through the MyDOTD notification system and listed on the 511la.org site. Residents can sign up for MyDOTD notifications by registering here: https://wwwapps.dotd.la.gov/administ...ts/mydotd.aspx. An instruction sign-up video is also available (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL_dFC3mWbU).

The Crescent City Connection Decorative Lighting Project was designed by Modjeski and Masters in 2023. The Pennsylvania-based firm has a storied history within Louisiana, including the design of the Crescent City Connection and the Huey P. Long bridges.

The original decorative lighting system was installed in 1987, a gift of the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans through a major capital fundraising campaign. Eventually, damage from Hurricane Ida created electrical system surges that resulted in the immediate shortage of replacement bulbs. The only remaining options were reconstructing an outdated electrical grid or the complete overhaul to a new technology.

The project is a joint venture between DOTD and the City of New Orleans.

I was actually going to come here and ask if anyone know when this project would start. I think it's important that it's ready for the Super Bowl
