Note that the removal of the H-frames has also forced the City to install separate lampposts.

Agreed.
Yonge St. in Toronto is disgusting on trash day - and those are just bags and cans of trash, not the big dumpsters.
Plus, there's not enough pedestrian traffic to keep the fronts of the stores busy, why divert business to the back alley?
It's all driven by aesthetics rather than business sense (i.e. form over function).
The beautified Telus Garden alley does see any use other than operations and maintenance.

Like those massive underground dumpsters in the Netherlands? Those would be awesome in Vancouver. Expensive to install, but I imagine cheaper to collect?

Here's a suggestion: Can we move to Skyscrapercity?
It would make uploading photographs, documents, and screenshots so much easier,
and user Yellow Fever alone uploads equal or sometimes even more photos per day on there than here.
Why are we putting up with this dinosaur of a website?
The Calgarians moved to Skyrise Calgary, and Montreal has its own Urban Toronto equivalent. It's time for us to move.

Is there anybody on SkyscraperCity other than YellowFever?

I can't speak for "It would make uploading...so much easier" (not a member)
But for viewing content, its a no from me, those thumbnail-tease are not convenient for viewing.
Maybe there is a setting on the thread (that I missed) to make all postings non-spoiler mode? (edit: I meant, spoiler mode)

Likewise, I did give it a quick check and found it to be harder for reading text. I'll keep checking it out because new sources are always appreciated but it does seem to me that the most important part of this site is the ease of reading since much of the information is delivered through text and discussion. The site also seems quite lacking in transit and infrastructure discussion for BC as best as I can tell and I do find that SSP offers a good mix of everything (buildings, transit, politics).

With respect to images, are the current issues here due to how this particular site is configured, or is it a limitation of vBulletin? This site is on v3 (3.8.7) but there does seem to be vBulletin 5.

320 E Hastings.

It's fenced up with seemingly no progress. It's been like this for a while.
Maybe they're gutting it from the inside?

301 E Hastings has also been fenced up.
Anyone know what they're doing here?

Workers were cleaning the streets throughout East Van today.
It's the first time the whole neighbourhood didn't reek of piss. Even the alleys.
Trash was also noticeably less.

No progress on 105 Keefer & 544 Columbia

Blood Alley:

239 Keefer Street, Sparrow Chinatown

Surveyor was on the Salvation Army site (134 E Cordova)

Great to see the progress on Blood Alley, so thank you for that! I do wish the buildings were more interesting architecturally from the alley side to create a truly landmark public space...

320 E Hastings has had work going on fairly continuously. There was apparently a lot of potentially dangerous material to deal with, (presumably asbestos), so they had a negative pressure set up for quite a while. That seems to have gone now, so unless there's some other issue, they ought to be able to start the demolition.

301 E Hastings had an initial open house to consider a couple of options in 2018. I think it's still owned by the Health Authority, and they were trying to build a health centre with social housing funded by BC Housing, (who agreed funding in 2018) but seemed to have had problems in reconciling that with the 'C' Heritage Building and the extra costs of keeping it and reusing it. One design replaced it completely.

The fencing is to prevent campers setting up next to the building, as there have been a couple of fires in tents that put the building at risk.

It's a great building. I hope to see it preserved and revitalized.

The Calgarians moved to Skyrise Calgary, and Montreal has its own Urban Toronto equivalent. It's time for all of you to move to make MY life 0.01% better.
Fixed that for ya.

(Your images aren't showing up on my computer, only the ones that show what's being proposed).

It's 150,000 sq ft, so I would guess too big for Rendition to develop without a pre-lease (even though they've partnered with Omicron). They have a joint project in Mount Pleasant with Nicola Wealth that's still not leased, and Sparrow in Chinatown that not completely sold out, so they're probably fairly stretched financially, and couldn't build something as big as Maker Exchange (now 488 Railway) on spec.

The rezoning was only approved last year (as 456 Prior) and Strand haven't submitted a Development Application yet.

Daily Hive jumped the gun on declaring this 'under construction' in mid 2022. The site was, and is, being used as a compound by Jacob Brothers who are putting in new services and roads for the new St Paul's. GWL Realty Advisors, (on behalf of Canada Life) will develop False Creek Station, but like Maker Exchange, it's unlikely to go ahead without a substantial pre-lease commitment.

The retail space on the east side was a cafe, but I don't remember what the west side was

It says they're cleaning abestos found in the building. I think it'll be demolished soon.

Sandman Inn

Pics by me last weekend.

Some dark red introduced nito the spndrel panels.

The change to horizontal panels looks odd.
