That was just a massing of what could be built, the 1,200 ft tower that was the speculated height, before Foster was chosen as architect for the project.

But this thing is coming together nicely now. Some pre-storm action...

These are the first photos that give a clear view of the internal structure of the base. They answer the question I've asked about the integrity of the support with those outward-leaning columns at the ground level. Answer: in addition to their size and the truss pulling them inward, there is also considerable support around the core area of the building. That's something that I could never clearly see from photos before. So thank you for posting them (and for braving the wind and snow to do so).

I’d really love to see the north stretch of Vanderbilt pedestrianized. It could be a back yard for the two JPMC buildings.

This should all be green.

Great pictures! Love that tunnel view through it viewed from Vanderbilt. Also, that “awning” structure on the Madison Ave side is looking much more like a permanent feature now.

I think the curving and tapering of the north and south faces are going to look very nice IRL.

And agree regarding pedestrianizing Vanderbilt in that area.

Yeah, it's a somewhat complex structure, but whatever it takes to get these things standing. I get a 175 Park vibe from some of the angles...

Back during the early rezoning, the plan was to create a plaza the length of Vanderbilt. But there was pushback to that, so only the area between 1 Vanderbilt and the terminal was closed off.

This building will be basically twice the height of the last 270 Park, so it will have a huge presence down Vanderbilt.

But we've come a long way since the early days of pre-demolition. Here's a look back, just over 3 years ago...

Sidewalk sheds were just beginning to go up.

And now we're watching this new baby rise!

I remember that pushback. Cops used Vanderbilt like a parking lot. Times have changed. Hopefully, the mayor will appreciate pedestrianized areas. The makeover for Broadway is impressive.

Can someone in NYC please give a sense of scale of this project? How tall is it now? What is the vertical height of the large angled columns? How tall are the floors above it? That sort of thing. It's hard to tell from 200 miles away looking at photos, even though there are some great photos. Thanks.

Well. Foster + Partners said that the building will be opened by 2024. Now, it’s doesn’t look like it!

^ They have been moving very quickly since the installation of the cranes. This tower, with about 60ish actual floors, will likely top out next year. It could very well open in 2024.

The tabletop structure is 83 ft high before we get to the vertical office floor columns. I don’t recall the height of those floors, but they are high.

This red mark represents the height of the building in that last photo set.
