Toronto does an overall lousy job of preserving heritage IMO.. Montreal has a clear advantage in that regard.

The city is evidently transforming very quickly with the introduction/expansion of the LRT system, and it will be very interesting to see how it continues to evolve/intensify into the future. Personally, I'd like to see the area hemmed in by the Rideau Canal, Highway 417, and Trillium Line be full of towers someday.

I really feel like a Montreal Road spur to the Confederation Line is going to be needed at some point. It would only have to be a couple of kilometres long, just getting across/under the Rideau River, but, the river really makes a choke point that’s just going to get worse.

To be fair the legion was actively looking for a developer to build on top of their property to help renovate it and to pay their bills going forward.

I don't know about Quebec. Montreal has its share of facadism and demolitions over the years. I think we can expect more facadism as the condo boom accelerates downtown.

Toronto is known for awkward lowrise (rowhouse) facades because of the sheer number of buildings going up with them. They have and continue to be built everywhere.

Montreal can afford to demolish lesser prewar structures more than Toronto. Still, I don't consider that a factor when it comes to poor policy.

Toronto definitely has more pre-war buildings and almost certainly has more 19th century buildings than Quebec City. Toronto was 3X bigger than Quebec City in 1901.

Of course, Toronto would objectively have fewer pre-1800 buildings than QC, and whether the buildings in QC are more architecturally noteworthy is a matter of taste.
