Keep in mind we're running away with speculation here.... but I do wonder how much adding a spire would be?

I'm not really a fan of spires. It really has to be the right kind of building for it.

360: Good.

Fairmont: Meh.

Marriott Rivercenter: Good.

The O'Quinn Medical Tower at St. Luke's: Good

The top has to be right for them. Flat roofs just don't look good with them. And even if they were to add a crown to 6 X Guadalupe and add a spire to the top of that, I think it would distract from the slabby quality of the building it has now.

98 Red River might be a better candidate for a spire. Or possibly the Railyard Towers.

Yeah, those are good points for sure. I all but know for certain nothing will change for 6X, but even a somewhat different/slanty roof would add a little pop.

Oh, yeah. Originally, I was thinking that's what it would be. Those first elevations we saw of it - the ones that came before the renderings did, showed it with a slanted roof. That's the one that also had it with the X-bracing in the facade.

Nice. While riding my bike down Jones Road this afternoon in Sunset Valley near Burger Stadium, and I noticed the crane poking up for Block 185 in front of the Indeed Tower, which is kind of a bummer since that view was going to be a good one of the Indeed Tower. I expect Block 185 will completely block the view of it from that angle.

Here's the Google Streetview of that view when The Independent was under construction.

What is the largest building in Texas in terms of square feet? This building should be somewhere up there once finished.

Largest 3:

United States Air Force Plant 4, 6.50m sq. ft.
USAA McDermott Building, 4.46m sq. ft.
Daikin Texas Technology Park, 4.24m sq. ft.

I don't think 6XG is anywhere close.

The usable floor area is 1,133,428 square feet, but there are bigger skyscrapers in Texas. These are all the ones I could find with 1 million+ square feet.

JP Morgan Chase Tower - Houston - 2,243,013 square feet
Bank of America Plaza - Dallas - 1,844,000
Wells Fargo Plaza - Houston - 1,833,760
Renaissance Tower - Dallas - 1,731,000
Comerica Bank Tower - Dallas - 1,531,000
Fulbright Tower - Houston - 1,483,988
Williams Tower - Houston - 1,483,308
Enterprise Plaza - Houston - 1,459,000
Santander Tower - Dallas - 1,410,300
CenterPoint Energy Plaza - Houston - 1,399,986
First National Bank Tower - Dallas - 1,399,986
TC Energy Cener - Houston - 1,399,308
1700 Pacific - Dallas - 1,344,760
Chase Tower - Dallas - 1,296,400
BG Group Place - Houston - 1,262,865
One Shell Plaza - Houston - 1,226,000
Fountain Place - Dallas - 1,200,000
Heritage Plaza - Houston - 1,149,596
6 X Guadalupe - Austin - 1,133,428

Is the parking garage square footage included in that 1,133,428 number?

I would think the garage has to be. I can't imagine the office and residential component alone could possibly be that much.

Goes to show how we may be catching up in height, but we're building relatively slender residential-oriented towers that aren't nearly as massive as the 20th century office buildings in Houston and Dallas. 6x is going to look wide compared to our other tallest but it would still be skinny in those cities.

I'm not sure. I do know it has 589,000+ square feet of office space. I'm not sure what the residential and parking numbers are.

But to put that into perspective, The Austonian's usable square footage is 590,000 square feet.

6XGuad is going to be skinnier than Frost and definitely Indeed Tower. Its tower portion is only taking up about ⅓ of the podium's size (due to the CVC).

On another note...have they decided to change from apartments to condos? Has the height change been cleared?
