Looks like they've done a great job inside, tons of local art and murals on all the floors and common areas.

This new ~46 floor tower is getting me excited. I know information is sparse at this point but I honestly thought it would be years before we saw another project that would break 150m. What are some stylistic elements you guys are hoping for? I've always been a sucker for tall, skinny towers with tinted grey glass.

I doubt this one is going to happen, and if something does happen I highly doubt it will be a 150+m tower. We would have heard something by now.

I recall my late grandfather who was raised here all his life, say that Winnipeggers were the reason the city hardly grew after WW and how Pessimism about Winnipeg from its citizens was what mostly kept it from attaining much growth or new developments.

This is a serious project and even a smaller project takes time, thought, design, money etc..
Attempting to reach a near 50 floor tower in Winnipeg or anywhere is no easy 1,2,3 so let's not be so hasty & nasty.

If this reaches fruition, then the next hurdles for something grand will seem reachable & be an easier grasp.

Considering this is the 3rd 40-50 storey proposal in the last 5 or 6 years tells you that developers are looking at it. SkyCity, 300 Main and this one.

It is said to be fairly far along in terms of behind the scenes.

I think the reason, and it’s a good reason, some people are apprehensive about this development is the developer himself. Will it be Fortress 2.0.

How much work is usually done behind the scenes before proposals are made public?

Enough so that plans can't change. This way at the public hearing and community engagement they can ignore what is said and basically say to councillors "did you want this building or not?". [/cynicism]

...or so the public can't say "but at the public engagement you showed this and now you're doing this" other than some minor tweaks.

On big private projects - lots. Usually depending on the type, office and retail can go right up until it starts construction before anyone knows about it as long as the site is zoned properly.

Publicly funded projects obviously face scrutiny so they are more visible through the planning and design process.

If this one is condo's, obviously they will have to make a big splash and sell units before construction. If it is apartments, they could basically start construction as they are announcing it.

We will have to keep our eyes on the City of Winnipeg zoning site for changes.

I was just about to ask the same question and since Wawanesa will be our 9th tallest, It would be cool to see how it aligns with the 8 buildings ahead of Wawanesa 23 floor 93 metre tower.

My sources said residential rentals but, that could change...or might be mixed? That way some cash flow comes in?
