yea this is the real deal from Japan lol. I do like Oomomo, they have been carrying less and less Daiso stock recently though, there is no shortage of suppliers for them at least.

They also operate Daiso stores in Australia, they were pretty good there.

What I noticed in Tokyo was the Daiso stores seemed to be common in residential neighbourhoods, like often you would see a 7-11 or Lawson etc next to a Daiso, not too big but handy for everyday items.

Is it going to take someone working downtown dying for something to change? We already have thousands of overdose deaths and that doesn’t change anything.

The latest was probably the one on Davie? I remember when that announced it was opening I was so surprised, I hadn't heard of a new one in years and years. It was the place my parents went, way before Home Depot/Lowes became to go-to

Gandy HH is moving from West 4th. Same owner as the Blight and Davie locations I think.

Ironically even with the bigger store they'll still have to endure not having back lane access-the 4th Ave store is the Most Awkward Design Ever and they have to take deliveries through the front door and Broadway will be just as bad.

The old gas station site. What a waste of space. Retail shouldn't even be allowed to be built on an arterial without 3-4 floors of housing above.

The model you suggest doesn't always pencil out. I've seen (mostly smaller) sites where the highest and best use was single level retail.

The Tesla store has closed/is for lease on the 900-block of Robson.
On the 1000-block Robson, the space that used to be occupied by BCBGMaxazria now says leased.

Curious as to what type of tenant would go in there? That area is about 80% Shawarma outlets.

Noticed Abercrombie & Fitch opening a location in Richmond Centre - old Lululemon location.

Also Sport Check / Atmosphere closing in Richmond Centre. Currently having a 'relocation sale' - entire store 30% off. Not sure where they're 'relocating' to. I assume they're closing because of mall redevelopment.

Ron.

That glass box design is at least six years old, and isn't the current proposal. CBRE have this image of the project. Presumably they need tenant interest to proceed.

I've never heard of Good Earth Coffee but apparently they're snapping up locations Starbucks abandoned in Canada:

Good Earth Coffeehouse looking to acquire closed Starbucks locations across Canada

Good Earth Coffeehouse is looking to expand following closures of Starbucks locations across Canada.

In a release, the Calgary-based chain said it plans on acquiring locations across the country that were “abandoned” by the Seattle-based coffee giant...

Maybe they'll take over the main Metrotown location (upstairs by the bus loop) as that one's closed. They've got a few other locations in the mall and Station Square so it's not really that surprising.

I'm not sure how successful Good Earth will be in a more sophisticated coffee market like Vancouver. I've always found their coffee quite mediocre and their food the same. Their ambiance is also very 1990s.

Deville going into the Post is another Calgary chain that I think has a far better chance of success here, their coffee is pretty decent for a chain.

The Good Earth at the end of Broadway seems like the better spot to study if you're a UBC student, at least better than the Grounds for Coffee. W is good too.
