But are we? To lift a quote from the linked article about Quantumscape, "there’s a rich history of premature claims of battery breakthroughs, so any new ones are met with skepticism."

I certainly hope that we do see a major breakthrough in battery development because that is what is truly needed to accelerate the replacement of ICE cars with electric. That being said, we've been told that we're on the verge of a breakthrough in battery technology for literally decades now, so regardless of the multitude of reports of improved technology being just around the corner, I believe the skepticism is warranted.

Hopefully battery technology gets better, but until then (5+ years I’m sure and Saskatchewan seems to be a follower on environmental issues generally so I won’t hold my breath) I still think each gas station should have electric car charge stations.

I'm wrong? Ok....well I didn't say we were close to a breakthrough or not.

But saying we are "close" to a breakthrough is like saying we are "close" to ending this pandemic or climate change. True breakthroughs or novelty can't be so easily predicted. You don't have a breakthrough until you HAVE a breakthrough. Saying we are "close" is subjective and generally meaningless.

Mine was a comment about yet another overconfidently stated opinion that as usual did not reference any sources.

What a freaking joke. No matter how you feel about Namerind as an organization, I’m getting so sick of this shit. If you’re going to buy a lot under the pretence of building something there, then fucking build. None of this hold the property for 5+ years and earn loads of cash off it only to determine that’s it isn’t economically feasible. This lot is such an awful barrier between the West and East parts of downtown, and literally anything at that corner would help connect West 11th to the rest of downtown. Boo to Namerind, boo to the city, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

I thought that was just the planning committee and it still has to go through council Sorry, Namerind. We are through any sort of boom and govt finances are going to be in rough shape for years to come due to the pandemic. There won't be govt money to get this built. If you couldn't do it during the upturn, it's not going to happen now.

You're correct, I was mistaken. I think the extension was just voted down 6-5, which, while I admire Namerind's plan, I am very happy and surprised council actually voted down an extension to a temp surface lot for once.
