Lots of potential for South Lamar and this area of South Austin. The District 5 City Council seat is up come November of 2022 as the current member is termed out. Hope someone steps up to run who is pro-housing, pro-transit and can speak concisely.

I think this does about as well as it can with that particular plot and the reality of Lamar and 360 essentially acting as freeways at that point. But, that northernmost garage can certainly be done better to better incorporate it to the non-freeway transition of Lamar, I agree...

All things considered, though, I think they did pretty well here and I'm not certain how to change it, short of putting the garage underground, which certainly wouldn't be cost-effective.

They could line the garage with single loaded residential, but that is less cost effective than concentrating the good stuff on the internal street instead.

Yeah, I was thinking that myself. And they certainly wouldn't want to do much for foot traffic there (shops/cafes, etc) despite it not being bad for Lamar...it wouldn't be as profitable.

I'm so glad they are going to reduce Lamar back to two lanes on each side rather than that strange stretch where they added extra lanes. All that did was to spread traffic out only to bottle neck when you get to the bridge. So many in that right lane which is a turn only at Riverside slow everyone down trying to merge back over.

Agreed! It might as well be two lanes as it is. The people merging over only slow things down.

There are two kinds of people merging there the "oh shit, I had no idea" and the "Im an aggro jerk and I will get in front of you and we'll either crash or you'll let me in".

It needs to go, not enough people turn right on Riverside to matter. Also, also. Close Riverside to traffic

Its an artery that literally doesn't need to exist at all until East of S 1st.

The same issue exists with the far right lane on Northbound Lamar after the intersection at Broadie Oaks. Like, how many cars exactly are trying to turn right onto Panther Trail?

Man, they just missed that Lamar bridge capitol view corridor. If anything gets built on the left to the west of it there is a view there.

Pecan Grove comes to mind, but a lot of people would fight that getting redeveloped.
