I don't love him, but he has improved markedly. Still not great positioning for a big body, but much better than last year.

Again, we hang goalies out to dry in Edmonton and have since Jason Smith days.

Rask you trade for and you move a D-man out. Larsson or Nurse. You could make it work and call up Bouchard.

I think with an actual NHL caliber goalie the Oilers become a better team.

I think Bouchard will be on the opening night roster, Benning or Russell or both will likely be moved out.
Not sure anybody will want to take Larsson for the return Oilers would need, so I'm guessing he's still here next season.
Nurse just signed a 2-year bridge, so no need to trade him at this point.
With any luck, Holland can move a contract or 2 and somehow convince Holtby to sign here for a hometown discount
The flat cap is not doing teams like Edmonton any favours in the short term

You are assuming Rask wants to come back to the NHL. Does Boston need another defenseman? Do they have cap room? With the freezing of the salary cap there will be free agents looking for a job.

He'll come back.

And Boston may lose Torey Krug as he's a UFA so they will need a dman to replace him. I'm not too familiar with Boston's prospect list so they may need one.

Another guy the Oilers may trade/buy-out in James Neal. He is so hit and miss. When he's on he's good but when he's not on, he's invisible.

I think you just described every forward player on the team outside of 29, 93, or 97.

His salary hurts to have on the roster though. At least some of those other guys don't have a cap hit of 5.75 mill for the next 3 years, especially with Kassians useless play and cap hit going up for next 4 seasons.

Help yourself and get rid of him any way you can.

Florida and Texas are the two southernmost states of the contiguous lower 48. Does this mean ice hockey is “ going south”. CFL seems to be crumbling. Baseball leaving Edmonton. CFR moved. Northlands Park gone. Soccer attracting friends and family only for crowds. University sport defunding. Will there still be lawn bowling at the ledge post covid?

Katz has also gone south to Malibu CA. An offer of a billion for the “Houston Oilers” is a scary thought. If Dallas wins the Stanley Cup Houston is feeling left out. They desperately want in.

These aren't the Pocklington Years, the Oil aren't going anywhere. The Flames have a better chance of moving back to Atlanta.
