Is this 'me too' but for coaches? Lol

I know some stories about Therrien. One of which incolved throwing his toe nails at players on the bus in juniors.

It would certainly seem so. I don't think Peters ever used the N word against Aliu, but used it in a description of his music. That's what I get from reading Aliu's tweet anyway.

That's an irrelevant distinction IMO.

It does kind of feel like a perfect storm brewing with the recent Don Cherry saga, and now the ever-hungry Toronto media prying open the doors on a not so well kept secret in the league. I think we'll see more ex-players emboldened by the others who have come forward. Case in point:

And before someone comes in with a point about players just being soft, Ray Ferraro brought up a great point yesterday. There's a ton of coaches who are hard-asses and may not be your best friend every day. On Overdrive they were talking about playing for some of those most infamous hard-asses like Mike Keenan, Sutter, Quennevillle, etc. and while they were tough, every one of their players would go through hell for them and could say they were truly good people at the end of the day. Not one former player has come to the defense of Mike Babcock the human being (Kadri said he was a good coach).

From TSN:

Quote:
Speaking publicly for the first time since he made the allegation on Twitter, the Nigerian-born Aliu said Peters made the remarks in the AHL’s Rockford Ice Hogs dressing room before a morning skate during the 2009-10 season while the 20-year-old Aliu controlled the team’s music.

“He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n----- s---,’ ” Aliu told TSN, with Peters, who was then the Ice Hogs head coach, referring to Aliu’s selection of hip-hop music. “He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n-----s f------ other n-----s in the ass stuff.’

“He then walked out like nothing ever happened. You could hear a pin drop in the room, everything went dead silent. I just sat down in my stall, didn’t say a word.”

Two of Aliu’s Rockford teammates who were in the room at the time of the alleged incident, Simon Pepin and Peter MacArthur, independently corroborated Aliu’s account to TSN on Tuesday.

"I think everyone should be held accountable for their actions or words spoken," Pepin said.

Peters is done. He wasn't quoting some 50 Cent Lyrics.

Apparently he kicked a few Canes players on the bench a few years ago. Michal Jordan is alleging this happened to him a couple times now. Buh Bye Peters!

Ya actually you're right Mike keenan was one that's considered a real asshole.

I think Scotty Bowman was the one where the players put up with the shit no matter what because of the results. "Scotty was a coach that you hated for 364 days of the year, and on the 365th day you got your Stanley Cup ring."

This has to be the first time since 2004 that all the top stories on TSN are about the Flames, usually there are 15 stories about the Leafs and you have to search for content on the other 6 teams lol.

Totally true unfortunately.
I wish we had a national network in this country.

Anything national will concentrate most of its time on the most profitable market. Need better regional coverage. Teams should own their own networks if they don't already.

Anyone remotely interested in modern sports journalism should bite the bullet and get a subscription to The Athletic. It's like $40 for a full year right now and makes going to TSN or Sportsnet irrelevant.

They're likely going through the legal process of trying to terminate his contract as opposed to just firing him which would leave them on the hook for the remainder of his salary.

I'm sure they've independently corroborated the accusations at this point. Hell, Rod Brind'amour publicly confirmed the part about hitting players on the bench in Carolina. He's not behind the bench for their game tonight and likely won't be coaching in the league again.

They need to do their due diligence. You can be sure the lawyers are working through this with a fine tooth comb to ensure (assuming he is fired) that they can do it with cause and therefore not be on the hook for the remainder of his contract like they would with a 'normal' firing.

Edit:
Suburbanite beat me to it.

I wish we had the US model. ESPN is not based in New York and you can't tell where it's from. Same with CNN for news.
I'm willing to bet New York and LA combined don't have 11 self focused sports channels like Toronto does.
