Especially since the province has committed to $250m new roof for the Big O already.

Major League Baseball in Montreal faces a big problem with economics. It's the same economics that are killing it in weaker markets in the US. The CAD to USD exchange just adds a 30% handicap.

It's a fun mirage though.
I would agree with this. A competitive MLB team can expect to have a payroll of north of $150 million US. As pointed out, Montreal would need a new stadium on top of the pricy Big O repairs. Compound that with a CAD that is in a long run of being below par with the USD along with Montreal's somewhat half-hearted enthusiasm for baseball (as compared to hockey), and I hate to be a debbie downer but I just don't see it working out. At least not until some of those conditions change.
