This is embarrassing. Kicking off a project of this size with 3 crates of lumber and one drilling machine is just theatrics to stall. Nothing is happening here. It's been over a year since "ground-breaking". Lets be realistic.

Yes, this is exactly like Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone.

Well they busted a gas line that had the neighborhood shut down this morning, so I guess they are doing something.....

Thanks. I am just happy that all of their leases on the surrounding lots will go away once GigantorGarage is finished. I start to really salivate when I imagine all those acres developed into dense, vibrant blocks.

Speaking of those blocks, what is the current state of the dual branded Marriott hotel last updated in the media in 2018? It's this ugly design:

https://atlanta.curbed.com/2018/3/21...west-peachtree

https://atlanta.curbed.com/2018/10/2...molition-hotel

My understanding is that the latest on this is that the lot has been cleared but that's it. Was the design rejected by the city?

I thought that it was under construction when I went by there, but can't say for sure. I live in Fairlie-Poplar and walk to Midtown from time to time so I will check it out next time, if no one beats me to it. I also want to get an updated photo of the Centennial Park adjacent apartment tower going up. It is several floors up and is already looming over the connector in a way I had not expected.

Are you talking about the Midtown Hotel next to the Fox? It was redesigned by the City Design Studio and is now under construction--

No, this is a different one by the same developers and architects. It's on the site of the old Heery HQ's, near Emory's new deck. The design is equally as hideous as the original one across from the Fox. Hopefully it was also referred to Tim Keine and the design commission for a rework.

I believe it is another City Design Studio project-- not to pick on this developer/ architect, but...
This stuff looks like it was done by a struggling 2nd year architecture student right before he or she decides to change professions--

There is a picture at the bottom of this article of a slightly improved design that was apparently approved by the city. It's still not great but not horrible like the original.

Definitely better-- in that contextually more sensitive, bland kind of way--

Depending on the materials, it could look good. Conservative, but good. For instance, if they used brick...

This is not the same developer as the hotel next to the Fox which is Noble Investment. Those guys at least know to get permits before starting demo like this developer did.

The site has been cleared for a while after demo was completed. They just recently got the land development permit so, if they haven't already, they will probably be starting construction soon.
