You forgot pasta.

Hamilton has done quite nicely for itself, lots of chefs ditching toronto making Hamilton home. Not sure what you’re getting at.

That statement holds zero water!!! Hamilton's food scene is hot as hell right now. Many respected Chef's from outside the city are making Hamilton home and I've said many times Hamilton is a foodie destination Food tourism is huge in this city now, we are pulling in people from Toronto to Buffalo to come and eat here!

Also this is freaking damn impressive....

we're saying different things. You're talking about people driving from Buffalo to eat at our huge variety of burgers and beer joints. I'm talking about places that are generally recognized by chefs and professionals as being incredible restaurants, places like these, all within 45 minutes of Hamilton:

https://www.dispatchrestaurant.com/
https://pearlmorissette.com/
http://hexagonrestaurant.com/
https://www.langdonhall.ca/dining/

What happens in the Hamilton 'fine dining' market is that burned out Toronto chefs leave and open branded, market focused bistros where they don't have to work very hard, and they can train line cooks to do all the work. The French, Frats, Aberdeen Tavern, Bread Bar, Brux House, Cima, all are decent places to take your client, mother, or girlfriends for lunch. None would rank in the top 500 restaurants in Canada.

That ranking was based on proportionate volume of openings in the May 1 2018-July 31, 2018 period.

Hamilton logged 77 new restaurants in that time, though of course EcDev's marketing department (which has been pushing this storyline since 2015) might have juked the stats to make eligibility more elastic (counting license applications and work permits the same as soft launches and ribbon cuttings), ensuring a higher ranking. This would apply to all food service entries in the city — even a food court refresh would count.

ChefHero's interest in quantity over quality is neither coincidental nor disinterested. One press clipping on their site describes them as "a company that is building the digital marketplace and network for restaurants to order wholesale food and supplies.” (They’re an app.)

In any case, it's only one ranking in time (i.e. Q2 2018), which does not a trend line make. When ChefHero gets around to releasing similar comparatives for Q3 2018, Q4 2018 and Q1 2019 a clearer picture will emerge. Until then, just another listicle of dubious nutritional value. (In February, they proclaimed Ontario's 2019 defining food trend as cauliflower pizza… based on Google Trends for 2018.)

I'm not ashamed to say I like Arby's. Haven't had it in like 2 years though because making the trek to the nearest one is too much.

Shingyu is a "Japanese fine dinning steak house" opening where Hoolycrab used to be in International Village.

Hamilton's only (and first?) Tiki bar will be opening a few doors east of the Gibson School on Barton. It's called Maipie and it's the brainchild of the Pokeh/Meat Ventures food truck owner.

Looks like Wendel Clark's is for sale. I'm amazed it stayed open as long as it has. Rent is $7400.

Also looks like Hambrgr is almost ready to reopen.

It was dead 95% of the time. I went there 4-5 times and I was always the only party there.

Spec review lede:

Can one restaurant be a good match for families, group events, after-work chilling, playing bocce on a patio and late-night live entertainment? Industria Pizzeria & Bar seems to be rising to this challenge in Burlington — and, soon, in the heart of Hamilton.

A brand that originated in Montreal in 2014, Industria recently expanded into Ontario. While most locations in Quebec are corporate, these two local ones are franchised, run by operating partner Geoff Yee, originally from Alberta and now happy to be raising his family in Binbrook.

Also Zen Lounge is going in the basement, expected to open this fall. Looks like another nice addition to the city's night life, Asian chic inspired!

Should be an exciting building once all complete!
