The back side is just one giant protruding balcony.

It sucks that even a lot of the luxury buildings in Canada can't get away without balconies. I'd gladly sacrifice mine for the good of the skyline.

Yes, and I count it, the Ritz, and One King West as the only ones without.

That's a neat Montreal proposal, I like the simplicity of it, it's a timeless element which conveys strength and trust.

The Toronto proposal looks too preliminary to really be judged too much by myself.....but I will say that any new retail additions near the Distillery District SHOULD have to maintain some kind of historic elements that respects the district.

The One doesn't have balconies? I tend to think of balcony-less designs are being sleek and clean, but it's exterior is... "complex" enough that I honestly never noticed.

Another larger tower proposed for the west end of Georgia Street.

Only the geodesic height was given.

Guessing this tower’s official height will be between 145 and 153 meters.

Beautifully composed rendering for the newest Montreal project however, it's far too conceptual to comment on the design. The massing is very promising

I actually thought the same thing, but in a good way. It has a very imposing, iconic look to it with the black glass.

A Hotel with a permanent residence program. You're right that it's probably not fair to compare the lack of balconies though. Technically any suite could be rented out as a hotel room which makes balconies a no-go.

Are balconies no longer allowed in hotels? I can think of at least one instance where I stayed at a hotel in downtown Toronto that had them...

I don't know the exact rules but I can't think of any built recently that have them. I imagine it opens them up to a whole bunch of liability issues.
