Yeah, the updates are showing things further behind than reality but it's definitely going to go into December. I think though a January handover is looking realistic though.

From this week's update... (https://www.ligneconfederationline.ca/news/construction-update-199/)

Quote:
The track and Overheard Catenary System (OCS) are certified for operation at line speed (50 km/hr);
Does that mean that the maximum speed of the trains will be 50 km/hr? Or does this mean something else?

I think it just means the system has passed the test up to 50kph, which means they can now test higher speeds and then get certified for it.

I also noticed that this is the first update that does NOT say "Train assembly continues."

Is this an implication that vehicle assembly is finally complete?

That makes sense. I had read elsewhere that (for Stage 1 at least) the trains will operate at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Since the Citadis Spirit is rated to operate up to 100 km/h, I am hopeful that in Stage 2 (and 3), the track through the greenbelt will be rated for the full 100 km/h. Everywhere else, the stations are too close for the train to get up to that speed.

According to some of the design papers that were published when the Kanata extension study was completed, the trains will be limited to 80km/h, even on the straightaway between Moodie and March Rd.

If I had my druthers, I would have pushed the station one block east to Metcalfe.

Furthermore, I would rename Metcalfe from Wellington to the Museum of Nature to something else. The street was named after the pre-Confederation Governor General, Charles Theophilus Metcalfe, who never lived in Ottawa and opposed the concept of Responsible Government being pushed by Baldwin and Lafontaine. He also preferred making Montreal the capital! The renaming could actually be a great opportunity to introduce an indigenous name to a street central to the capital, something like "Ishpadinaa" which means hill and is the origin of the Toronto's Spadina Road. Ishpadinaa Station would be cool

There's always the potential of linking in a Metcalfe entrance at a future date. Right now the actual center of the station is under O'Conner and Queen, but it extends almost as far as Metcalfe. I think World Exchange will eventually build an entrance directly into the station. The caverns were designed with additional knockouts to support future entrances

We need the proper Irish pronunciation.

Why is living in a city a requirement for a street naming?

Metcalfe convinced the colonial office to pardon the 1837 rebels and abandon the forced anglization (if that is a word) of francophones, which is hugely important to Canadian history.

Agreed. For most cities you want to honour someone who had a positive influence on the city but for a National Capital, having a positive influence on the country is also valid.

Another good example is Terry Fox. He never lived in Ottawa (he was born in Winnipeg and moved to the the Greater Vancouver area as a child), but I don't see any objections to having a street named after him in Kanata (or any city for that matter).

I think that will be sooner than we think (WEP entrance). Parliament lacks entry points and I'm predicting bottlenecks from day 1.

You're picking at the smaller point of my larger opinion which is Metcalfe was hardly a hero of Canadian democracy, and it's ironic to have a street leading up to Parliament named after him. He was a British colonial governor sent to dictate British rule on on pre-Confederation British North America.

Terry Fox has significance from coast to coast. Metcalfe has no significance outside Ontario and Quebec because he only governed the united Province of Canada which did not even include the Maritimes.

I'm really not loving the murals at Lyon, it screams to me "1970's rec centre" rather than 21st century train station. Then again, since going into Place de Ville itself feels like stepping 40 years into the past, maybe it's totally appropriate.
