To be honest, Nordstrom and Simons are really taking The Bay to school when it comes to the overall retail experience.

Is there any word on Eataly ever expanding into Vancouver. The Toronto one seems to be a very long project to get off the ground.

Yeah, Saks OFF 5th used to be better.
Went into one in San Diego last year and - yeah - it was a lot of HBC brands.

Saks 5th Avenue at Toronto's Bay Centre is definitely high end. Certainly not on the west coast.

Eataly won't be able to find space downtown that's for sure. The best hope would be the Post on Georgia retail space. Other spots would be the future Oakridge mall, and even in nearby Burnaby: Brentwood mall.

In TO, they already have quite a few food halls, and Eataly will only add to the mix. We were pretty well ahead when it came to retail 20 years ago, but I think Vancouver has fallen way way behind.

Problem is there are too many Off Fifth locations and too few full line Saks locations so there isn't enough merchandise coming from the full lines to stock the off Fifth.

Eataly is still looking and could end up in one of several locations downtown. They will be patient and find one that they really like though.

It is great to hear they are looking. Having visited several locations in europe they always seem to have impressive architectural spaces. I really hope they will stay true to the concept of what Eataly is and not turn it into a glorified city market given the loblaws/weston family involvement. I also worry that our extremely restrictive liquor laws will not allow for a true Eataly experience but here's hoping!

Yup, the Off Fifth turned out to be nothing more than a suburban Bay discount store.

I've liked some of the brands that have appeared at the Bay downtown that you won't find elsewhere in Western Canadian Bay stores, but disappointed to see that they dropped Boss Black (or the other way around).

Holt's hasn't leased at Brentwood and is unlikely -- tough times for Brentwood, Mandarin Oriental Hotels came to have a peek and determined the location to not be for them (being in the burbs away from attractions/galleries/restaurants etc).

Vin, they're talking about Saks Off Fifth, not Saks 5th Avenue - two different things. Also, Saks is at the Eaton Centre, not "the Bay Centre".

Well, I'm saying the high-end Saks 5th Avenue, and not off 5th. Downtown Vancouver deserves a Saks 5th Avenue, instead of having so many Saks Off 5ths around.

I think it would be good to aim at the Chinese tourists, have all the brands in one spot like some of the malls in Australia, plus more general everyday brands.

Uniqlo's Vancouver pop up is opened in yaletown. It looks pretty crappy.

Wow, that's really unimpressive.

I'm really surprised Uniqlo hasn't considered the two large and long-vacant CRU's at Robson Centre Place, the former A/X and BCBG. Seems the combined size would be more than adequate.

Yes it is, but traditionally it has always been a popular The Bay stand-alone store famous for its christmas decors.

Even Simons would've been great for Brentwood, and it's Canadian!

I see Sitka, which had moved into the old Archetype space at Main and 10th is already gone. A very high profile corner, landlord must be asking a lot!

Some quick snaps of the new Indigo on Robson. It's exceptionally well done, just the right size and more appealing than the vacated location at Howe and Robson.
