You must be trolling. I like Philly & NYC, but neither hold a candle to the bustling metropolises of Europe in terms of beauty, history and the overall urban life. I can understand if you said you never wanted to see Boise or Phoenix, but to dismiss London, Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo outright is A-level trolling.
Wow, I get a totally different impression at the street level: every time I'm in DC I feel disappointed by how soulless the city seems. I think a lot of the low-rise European cities have this personal feeling that DC just completely lacks. Maybe I just don't know where to look though. Of the US cities I've been to, Boston and Philly come closest to capturing that vibe at the street level.
I agree. I mean, it is the HOME of the US government. I don't want to stereotype anybody, but I don't find them to be the most exciting bunch.

Some time in your life, if you get real brave, you might want to head west and give Chicago a look see. I hear they have a couple nice little buildings.

We have an office in DC, and I spend a fair bit of time there. Most of its new buildings are trash. Glassy, squat, and boxy. We may get some ugly McTownhomes with haphazard metal paneling, but I think most of our commercial new construction beats out DC's by a wide margin. I don't think modern design lends itself well to such stunted heights. DC is saved by its beautiful old buildings, wide sidewalks, and excellent landscaping. But I'm glad Philly didn't follow the same path as far as height limitations.

Honestly, this whole thing needs to be squashed. He didn’t insult any other city, he just said he had no interest in visiting any other city...that’s his call. It looks like the comment has been deleted anyways. From everything I’ve gathered, TTG is super enthusiastic about Philly, nothing wrong with that.
Not sure if has been mentioned in here, but it looks like they've been doing work on the lot at 20th and Arch for about a month. The tiny Avis Car Rental buildings that were there have been demolished and parking lot torn up. I think this is one of the blocks Liberty owns, right? Anyone know what is going on there?

Just think of it like what Brandywine did to the parking lot at 21st and Market. This just goes to show that Liberty is looking at it and are imagining what they could do with a blank slate for future development I’m glad we have our two big local developers eyeing up such prominent lots along west Market. Definitely huge potential right there as Schuylkill Yards and the 30th Street station district get built out. Love what I’m seeing over there.
Maybe I'm asking the wrong group here, but just as a curiosity:Just before One Lib was constructed, there was an informal poll by one of the newspapers asking whether Billy Penn's height should be surpassed, and the response was 3:1 in favor of keeping the height restriction.
Question is, would anyone want to go back to that now? Was there any value in restricting building heights to Billy Penn?

but there are still low and mid rise buildings being built now: not every building has to be taller than Penn, it's just that it's no longer a consideration.

I have spent a lot of time in DC and a week again not too long ago and it has very busy street life and activity in many parts and over time I am noticing that this is extending well past business hours also. Philly is no slouch either but DC is decent and they have a solid momentum going on there. By default DC draws a lot of people via tourism, though, as does Philly, so you are almost guaranteed a constant stream of pedestrians in certain areas. As more residential pops up you just add to the crowds.
Height to me is one of those things where height looks good from afar but can kind of suck at street level. A skyline like DC's doesn't look too cool from afar but it is really neat at street level...for me "really neat" because I like the blocks upon blocks of buildings BUT still getting sunlight all day long and you don't feel as closed in.
Our skyline is one of the best and I never tire at looking at it.

To be clear, my post was more in reference to his (somehow common) misunderstanding of the 1st Amendment, which is a larger problem than what cities some guy wants to visit. Dropping this now.

I won't claim to have any knowledge of the inner workings, just that its going to personally exorcise some demons and it'll make them feel a sense of vindication. Blowing off steam is really what it comes down to.

First two aren't a big surprise to me as I've always thought they had to be looking for an east coast site, but Atlanta? Interesting. If as you've said they've already made up their minds I'm more convinced than ever it'll be DC-area (probably NoVa) but at the very least it's 100% in the northeast, IMO.
