Really?!? His dislike of “Frenchies” is pretty well documented.

yes indeed. This is well-known. And if he is stupid enough to conflate "Frenchies" and "Separatists" why should anyone feel the need to apologize for his boorish lowest-common denominator intolerance?

What is he even up to these days? I feel like he's been completely off the radar here for years. I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's passed away years ago. (Obviously not, based on posts in this thread, but still, whatever he's doing, he's not anywhere near in the same league for visibility as before.)

RE the comment about all his dogs being named Blue, William Lyon Mackenzie King did the same.

A neighbourhood tale from Vancouver's west side. The first is a "storybook" Tudor, the orange fencing usually indicates its about to be demolished. The second two new homes are kitty corner and replaced two character homes. The "architect" seems to have developed a novel use for marble floor tiling as an exterior accent. Particularly of interest is the bold panel directly above the door, having no particular function other can creating an oppresssive and threatening entrance. I'm sure the proud Mainland Chinese owners are very happy with their lovingly crafted mcmanses (especially the Home Depot carriage lamps perched on the fence).

Yikes, those are pretty bad - worse than the Tudor. And Tudor is the tacky ugly of its era.

Damn what a shame... There ought to be more stringent heritage protection for older houses like that one. I personally like early 20th century neo-tudor homes.

^ In Vancouver, the Tudor is quite nice and represents a style that is a significant part of the historic past. Sadly, the two newer post modern icky cookie cutter boxes are typical and completely overwrought attempts of a pastiche of traditional proportioning.

That faux Tudor is probably the nicest "character home" I've seen in Vancouver for a while. Those McMansions are ugly, but they're usually better than the rotting cottages/sheds they've been built to replace. Vancouver just doesn't have much nice housing stock.

I seriously doubt Don Cherry checked out the political credentials of skier Jean-Luc Brassard when he scoffed that "some French guy" was going to carry the Canadian flag at the Olympics, or those of NHL "French refs" when he staunchly defended boneheaded comments made about them.

real bad. He does make me cringe with the over-the-top earnestness. but as eloquently put by Rousseau in another thread, he is leagues above the ferret-headed trainwreck and gigantic gaping asshole that is running the country to the south.
