Well, I have always supposed it's fair to regard the CN Tower as a non-building, in the sense that it's not inhabitable (it's essentially a glorified radio mast), so it must be kept off such lists. With that in mind, there's no question that Toronto's skyline would be nowhere near as distinctive without its soaring, muscular presence.

It has indeed been a long time coming, considering FCP - of which I'm extremely fond, by the way - was built 40+ years ago, at the same time as CN. I guess there just hasn't been a business case for something taller until now. Anyway, I concede that 300 m/1,000 ft is a thoroughly arbitrary figure to anyone who isn't a skyscraper aficionado. I imagine most regular people in Toronto are yawning at news of these groundbreakings.
