3-3-3 on a 330 is just awful for anyone of a slightly above average build.

Thanks for the photos…nice airport!

I’ve passed through YYT a couple of times….connecting to those ‘narrowbody’ transatlantic flights!....and a great service too for a city of 225,000: a daily Air Canada A319 to Heathrow and daily Westjet ‘737-700s to Dublin and another to Gatwick.

I also note elsewhere in this forum that the A319 service to Heathrow is upgauged to a ‘767-300 next winter with the current non-stop Halifax-Heathrow service that will now stop in St. Johns on the way across the pond….. returning a scheduled widebody’ to YYT for the first time in about a dozen years.

Now that you mention it I can't remember the last time I was on a plane with two aisles and seats in the middle lol.

Yeah the service is great. People (like my friends last night) take the direct WestJet fight to Gatwick and then get a European flight to their actual destination for pocket change. It saves a fortune. And it's much easier and shorter than flying to TO or MTL first to get to any continental destinations from here. And you can avoid Air Canada. It's like people who go to Slovenia by flying into Venice and then taking the train for 15 Euro.

Looks like one YVR based rouge 767 is moving to YYC at least for the winter season. Could be interesting if they keep it there for the summer, might signal a new route coming.

Looks like largely upgauges across the board, surprised to see the mexico flying from YVR move to mainline though, that seems off.

The YVR rouge flights to Mexico (daytime) shared the same plane as the Hawaiian (nighttime) flights though. And that's only 3 weekly that got moved to mainline. So basically YYC got something like 1/4 of a YVR based plane...

Competition heats up on Vancouver-Hong Kong route
Airlines seek edge with ultra-modern planes, seat configurations, self-serve bars

Hong Kong Airlines landed its first flight to North America at Vancouver International Airport after 10 a.m. on June 30 | Vancouver Airport Authority

With more competition on the Vancouver-to-Hong Kong route than ever before, airlines are selecting ultra-modern aircraft and using innovative configurations to lure travellers.

Hong Kong Airlines launched daily non-stop flights between Vancouver and the Chinese special administrative region on June 30. This follows Cathay Pacific upping its number of flights on that route to 17 per week from 14 as of March 28.

Air Canada, the third competitor on this route, has daily flights.

The competition has boosted the number of flights per week on the route by 48% – to 31, compared with the 21 flights offered last summer.

Indeed, flights between Vancouver and the greater Chinese region, including Taipei and mainland China have been rapidly increasing as BIV reported earlier this year.

By July 25, there are scheduled to be 10 airlines operating a total of 104 weekly non-stop flights between Vancouver and those destinations.

Stiffer competition has forced airlines to differentiate their offerings and that is happening on the Vancouver–Hong Kong route.

Cathay Pacific’s strategy has been to use Airbus A350s on the airline’s three new weekly flights. Those planes, making their Vancouver debut, are Airbus’ equivalent of Boeing’s Dreamliner 787s, with both being the most advanced commercial aircraft available.

Not only do both models of aircraft fly faster and higher and offer better fuel efficiency, they also can provide a cabin humidity that makes passengers feel as though the plane were flying much lower – something that reduces jet lag.

“[Airbus A350 planes] are made from a composite material, rather than aluminum, which means that it is lighter,” Cathay Pacific’s senior vice-president for the Americas, Philippe Lacamp, told Business in Vancouver.

“The planes also have reduced emissions.”

While Hong Kong Airlines has some Airbus A350s on order, it plans to use a different class of Airbus plane – A330-200s – on the Vancouver route. The planes are relatively new but not as technologically advanced as the A350 series.

Nice video! I guess if I ever want to go on a 747 in my life I have to fly YVR to Taipei. I grew up under a runway in Winnipeg; when a wide-body comes in during the daytime it's obvious, so I am a little jealous to see the big iron landing so frequently in vancouver.

TAP airlines commenced service at YYZ as of June 11th utilizing 332 aircraft - 268 seating configuration at 5X a week service bumping up to daily in the winter scheduling season.

Interjet is expected to start service at the end of the month with 2X daily flights - 4X per week serving Mexico City and Cancun utilizing A320 aircraft. This is in addition to 2X daily service by both Aeromexico and Air Canada to just Mexico city alone.

FYI - EVA is one of the only airlines AFAIK to have economy seating on the upper deck of their 747 if you wanted that upper deck experience. When I tried to book seats there last year i suspect it was a popular option as it was nearly full while there were a few empty rows on the rear main deck.

Unfortunately both CI and BR are retiring their 747s at YVR this summer.

Huh? Start or announce?

Nothing has been announced by Interjet about YYZ, nor is anything bookable. I doubt they will start a route in 3 weeks, when the route hasn't even been announced yet.

They are starting service to YUL in 3 days.
