Because those stations are an extension of the Millennium line.

Yes, I know that. But all the stations in Surrey are an extension of the original Expo line, but you don't see them calling them "surrey extension" or whatever.

It's incredible how complex they've made it.

The most sensible and logical thing would have been:

Expo Line: Waterfront <-> King George
Millennium Line: Waterfront <-> Production Way/Lougheed
Evergreen Line: Commercial-Broadway <-> Douglas Station

Instead we end up with such a stupid scenario where we'll have the Expo Line branching into two separate lines and the Millennium Line being confused with the "Evergreen extension."

**** you Translink.

Because "extension" means "additional".
i.e. those stations were added later.

It's an accurate description.

Note that the "Coming Soon" looks like it'll have the 2 colour line.

The extension will not be known as anything but the Millennium line. They are just using it for construction purposes. Just like when Millennium line gets extended west they will call the extension the Broadway Extension, but once built, it will just be the Millennium line, once again.

Seriously? A split line isn't exactly complicated. The Canada Line does it.

In fact, I'd say it's a lot easier to understand than interlining.

Keep in mind, I do believe it would be more tolerable if they update the PA system and destination signs at stations.

The only reason "Evergreen" is used is because it was a trendy name when this was planned to be an LRT line from Lougheed to PoCo. Skytrain was used instead, but regrettably the name Evergreen was kept - causing un-necessary confusion with people still calling it the "Evergreen line" as if it was a stand-alone system like the Canada line (and like the Evergreen LRT would have been).

If Surrey builds their LRT, it will be an independent line - separate from the Expo line, but they will meet at Surrey Central. Or they will build the "Langley extension" of the Expo Line. Or they will do both an Expo extension and a new LRT line.

In a few years there will be a "Broadway Extension" or an "Arbutus Extension" of the Millennium line.

and the "UBC extension" of the Millennium line

and a "Maple Ridge extension" of the Millennium line. This may result in the new names such as "Lafarge Lake branch" and "Maple Ridge branch" for the Millennium line.

Regardless, they will remain Expo Line and Millennium line after they have been extended.

The signage in the station at lafarge late on the platform clearly show the words "Evergreen extension" underneath the millennium line. So I don't think what you're saying is accurate.

The main name change over the historical name "Millennium Line" is for the segment from Lougheed to Columbia.

Here's a pic of an original brochure (CD case) showing the original Millennium Line.
... even before the Expo Line became called the Expo Line!
I'll take the "Existing Line"!

Pic by me.

They look pretty permanent, but I'm only able to see it from the sidewalk so who knows.

It only just occurred to me that this change will likely (or should!) include the opening of the new 3rd platform at Lougheed Town Centre Station.

Starting Oct 22 until opening of Evergreen extension:
Expo line runs from Waterfront to Columbia, then branches out to either King George or Production Way/University
M line runs between VCC/Clark and Lougheed Town Centre

Not past, present. It was just a couple of months ago council rejected a six story building on a vacant lot (within community plan guidelines, supported by city staff, design panel and land use committee) right next to Port Moody station because people in the building behind it figured the lot should stay empty so their view wasn't blocked. (Note that the Mayor did vote in favour but was outvoted).

Current council is pretty anti-development, I assume that developers will wait to see how the next municipal election turns out and will build in Coquitlam in the meantime.
Yeah!

Doubtful, since the 3rd track at Lougheed is for trains toward Lafarge Lake. No trains go to Coquitlam on Oct 22.

Yes, but turning trains around at Lougheed without using that 3rd platform is going to be a pain.

A few people have suggested that they'll actually run the trains all the way to Lafarge and back (with an STA on-board and no passengers) as part of the final testing & commissioning phases.

The real change from a passenger perspective will be the up and down transfer required
- and central to that is the fact that trains coming from VCC-Clarke will stop at the new 3rd platform.

For a "proper" test, Millennium trains from VCC-Clarke should stop at the new 3rd platform, then continue up North Road to the switch,
then come back in to the north side of the old centre platform (Platform 2?).

The Expo Line trains from Braid (Waterfront) will also stop at Platform 2.

That way, they are testing the interlining of trains at Platform 2.

....or maybe they'll use the switch circled in orange below to reverse the trains.

Modified version of Lougheed Operations diagram showing revised movements from Partnerships BC website.
