Got off at Sapperton station last night at 9:30. Saw contracted sign crews removing the Yellow stripe and Millennium line wording from the glass windows. The evergreen extension opening creeps ever closer...

Seriously, I wouldn't mind the Broadway extension to be called the Pacific Line, as it goes westward out into the Pacific (to UBC). That will never happen I know...

That was a running joke back in the day when it was being built... you know back when Glen Clark was the Premier. It was said that the only reason the line was extended past Commercial Drive ( its logical terminus point ) was because the Premier wanted a station in his namesake.

VCC-Clark though, let's be honest, is a better more descriptive name.

Mayor Mike Clay said development near the Port Moody stations has been sluggish so far compared to what’s going on around the new stations in Coquitlam.

“I don’t know what everyone is waiting for,” he said. “I know there has been some land assembly and new owners coming in, but they haven’t done anything yet. It’s like they’re waiting for the line to actually be built.”

Rezoning in the vicinity of Inlet Centre station was done several years ago to accommodate more density, he said.

“There has been some talk about it, but nobody has put a shovel in the ground or brought a plan to city hall yet.”

The city is hoping for construction of office, high-tech and light industrial buildings around the Moody Centre station, Clay said.

I'm not sure what he's expecting. The real estate bubble's epicentre was Vancouver. Burnaby is possibly the only other area that's really seen an explosion in construction.

Yes Surrey and Coquitlam have seen some action but I wouldn't go so far as to call it an 'explosion' - and they each have a mall they can use as an anchor for redevelopment. Port Moody around the new Skytrain line is looking pretty suburban (aka groundscrapers). I suspect most developers will wait until Coquitlam is pretty much filled out before doing much along the Port Moody section of the line.

Makes sense changing it, but I'm surprised they didn't immediately cover it with temporary signage indicating it is still currently the Millennium Line. We're still 6 months away from when this will be correct.

Edit: Unrelated, but I still don't really like their current standard for station signage. The station name is now smaller, around the size of the speaker, alll the white is useless. They should have just carried on with the type of sign on the Millennium Line, just make it blue for Expo instead. (It'd also be matching the Canada Line) You can still indicate the line name along the sign if needed, but this seems like they're just adding white space to the sign and making the text smaller for no apparent reason.
