Some people have the misconception that a company moving from the burbs to the city, that its employees will be moving to the city as well. The fact is that a lot of these employees have families with kids, and these are the people that spur the growth of our surrounding suburbs like Dunwoody, Alpharetta, Duluth, etc. They are not packing up and moving to a 2 bedroom apartment/condo in the city.
I don't think anyone is saying that all of the current employees are going to pick up from the burbs and move into Midtown. However, additional jobs coming to Midtown will absolutely lead to more residential growth in and near Midtown (ITB).

Either way, this whole move is to target an employee population that wants to work in Midtown, as opposed to out in the burbs. I mean, that is the whole purpose of the move. If I were a betting man, I'd say those targeted employees aren't by and large living in the burbs.

Interesting...though I don't think the move is to target employees.

Even giving confidence to some of the proposed projects in Midtown that haven't broke ground would be amazing (ie Hanover Midtown, 5th & Juniper, 811 Peachtree, 880 W. Peachtree,..). Could also encourage additional infill development even closer to NCR, including lots closer to the North Ave station and more development further out along Ponce/North Ave and the EST. Those are all are manageable in-town distances to the HQ that may have a North Ave. streetcar coming soon. It's going to be another amazing decade to watch Atlanta grow.

This move is absolutely to target employees. They explicitly wanted to be close to Tech to attract talent.

In regards to the site, formerly known as Dollhouse. Why would a second approval for tree removal be needed if one was given (although, preliminary)? Last day for comments is today, can we get this off the ground already?

A few planning updates.
Planning permit for a 3' fence to be built around the academy of medicine on West Peachtree. I don't like that idea at all. We shouldn't have fenced-in yards in the heart of Midtown.

Planning permit for "new construction of metal building" at 173 Boulevard NE.

Planning permit for 384 Peachtree, the Medical Arts Building. I can't tell what this is for.

Planning permit for new condo construction at 3089 Peachtree Rd NE.

What is the hold up with JPX's towers in Buckhead and Midtown? Why is nothing happening with them? JPX filed permits back in Sept. 2015 for Peachtree and 3rd at the same time as Amli. Now Amli is underway and JPX's tower has yet to start. I thought JPX at Peachtree and 3rd was ready to start.

They won't start construction on the condo tower until they have a certain percentage of the units committed, so depending on how long that takes, could be awhile before you see dirt move.

I see. I thought the JPX Midtown tower was apartments.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The Buckhead tower probably won't move for awhile, considering their price range and that they'll need a significant percentage of sales before proceeding. The one in Midtown is rental and I'm not sure what the hold up is, other than there are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that we're not always aware of and these things take time.

Construction for the JPX Buckhead project won't begin until this fall. Presumably that would also be the case with Peachtree & 3rd.

120 Piedmont Ave NE Mixed Use Proposal

SAP filed today for a 250,000+ square foot mixed use project downtown at 120 Piedmont Ave NE, by the Preston Partnership.

Link here.

Does anyone have any more information about this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's just the GSU dorms already under construction?

Yep, you're absolutely right! I misinterpreted the location of the GSU dorms on the dev map.
