That entire intersection should be different from what it is, but isn't the most likely near-term outcome that some other retailer (or retailers) simply assumes the lease?

It's a prime site for a TOD. Within the 1/4 mile threshold, -3 zoned.

On the subject of all the Fulton area developments, it looks that some kind of rebuild of Kinzie is going on between Halsted and Morgan. It even looks like a widening - does anybody know?

That empty lot next to Pizzeria Due is under construction. I looked up the permit data and in February they issued the construction permit:

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW 2-STORY CORE AND SHELL ONLY; RESTAURANT/SMALL ASSEMBLY

Also, from 5/13;

SELF-CERTIFICATION: INSTALLATION OF UNDERGROUND PLUMBING FOR NEW TENANT SPACE. CONDITIONAL PERMIT SUBJECT TO FIELD INSPECTION.

I always hoped for something better for that site.

Also, no one really discussed this but yesterday a 7 story 60 unit apartment building was approved on the empty lot at 171 N. Wabash . I remember seeing plans for this a long time ago and if I recall correctly they couldn't build taller due to air rights.

^ good, I'm all for more midrises downtown. These two on Wabash are just fine. The one down by the Lake Street tower was supposed to be significantly uglier am I right? it still is odd to see a design clearly referencing the industrial architecture of the West Loop all the way over a block from Millennium Park.

I was walking with my husband down Clark a few nights ago and I was saying how excited I was that Sports Authority was closing down. He doesn't really stop and have that eye for urban development or think much of it so he didn't really care, but I was saying how I HATED that intersection.

Every corner is worse than the next between Walgreens, CVS, Sports Authority, BofA and the wasted focal point which is the polish sausage place.

It's cramped and sucks to drive through, it sucks to walk through and it sucks to look at. My dream is to demo that entire intersection and put up something cohesive and friendly. The DSW building isn't pretty but I can deal with it.

Is there ever any hope or talk about the two huge parking lots flanking Van Buren on the west side of Wabash?

Forgot there's another one on the southeast corner as well. What the hell happened at that intersection to make it such a waste?

Weather/light is perfect. What you're having a hard part comprehending is the exaggeration brought on by the parallel vertical lines. If you tilt-the camera up, and don't fix it in photoshop, it appears the building is falling away from you - something most architects/developers don't like in their photos.

I did a blog post about it a while back - as it relates to architectural photography - Kick converging parallels to the curb

I lived two blocks away from that intersection for the better part of a decade...it should all go including the DSW building and the bank parking lot/drive thru to the north of it.

2031 N Milwaukee is a triangular lot (NW corner of Milwaukee/Campbell), but the rendering shows (or appears to me) a rectangular building. Having trouble placing it, and telling what lots are being cleared. Is Concord Music Hall included? Or just the lots SE of that?

Yes! I logged on here today, specifically to talk about this, and mention this intersection...hopefully the entire structure, including the parking, is demolished and something amazing is built there! Glad other people are thinking the same way I do!

I'm gay but am wondering what an "LGBT friendly" place is. I know a number of gay people who live near there without problems. Reading about it, perhaps there were some issues historically but I can't imagine there's much issue these days. And doesn't identifying as an "LGBT friendly" building create a target? I don't get the point.
