You really need to get out of Winnipeg, and experience life in other cities. Population really is not the issue. The issue is the need for government incentives, and when these are limited to one area, the many other neighborhoods in need of such see very little in terms of investment.
This would be a wonderful addition to Provencher; I hope there is a taker soon.
The issue is that Winnipeg has a massive downtown for our population, and underwent a decade of stagnant population and economic growth just a decade ago. In 10 short years the progress is amazing. Comparisons to other cities are useless.
Btw, I travel regularly. In less than 20 days I'm on my way to Athens and Santorini.

^ It doesn't seem that out of line... the WAG is definitely one of the province's top tier cultural institutions, and they haven't had a major capital project since the current building opened its doors in 1972. By contrast, the Manitoba Museum has seen a lot happen since it first opened in 1970... they added the Nonsuch Gallery, the HBC gallery, Alloway Hall, the Parkland Gallery, with more on the way.

I would be more concerned if Bowman was connected with the contractors doing the work.

With his involvement in the recent past with the WAG board those type of relationships may already exist. That is partly why I am concerned. Taking a step back though it is an organization that does deserve that kind of investment. I just wish it didn't have the possible conflict of interest surrounding it. The other side is City Hall is having to make tough choices such as cutting fall street cleaning and telling police to trim their budget but we have $5 million to spend on more of a vanity project.

This is so true. I've been looking for a small commercial space in the exchange and have had so many email inquiries not get answered. I don't get it.

For all I care the WAG can have $50 million from the police budget.

Then there would be people complaining that "green space" is being developed. What they don't see they can't complain about.
OK, so we had the True North Square announcement at the end of February, the 300 Main announcement in the middle of April... given the trend, shouldn't we be getting another new tower announced pretty soon?
Yeah that's the one. 15 storey, 20 storey. meh. It was supposed to be 40 storeys or something crazy, dating back to the original plans some are familiar with. There's another tower supposed to go in there, I think in between the original two buildings.

bj nailed it, something about shadows and too much traffic on an already busy street. They came back with a scaled down version 6 months later. It was approved.
