Yeah, now if only the city (BIZ?) could actually focus on building up Provencher. 5 more Place Joseph Royals please.

I was on Selkirk yesterday and I noticed that work on the Merchants Hotel is starting to come along. The expansion is just starting to reach above grade now.

Not the RCMP HQ on Portage @ Dominion.

Must be another one entirely.

Somebody (I think 1AJS actually) posted somewhere that the former District 5 Police Station (old St. B police station) was going to be a francophone medical clinic.

Sad state? This may be one of your over-the-top characterizations. Could it be improved a lot? Yes. But i was talking about the area north of Provencher along Tache, and in particular north of the tracks and bordered by the park. Undergoing an amazing transformation. A transformation beginning there will eventually impact the surrounding area. Nothing happens overnight.

^ I agree with Ando, Provencher is not bad. I mean, it's a functional urban environment. What really holds it back is the relentless heavy traffic with the big trucks routinely pounding through. I don't think it will ever reach the next level so long as it feels like the Trans Canada Highway.

Nay. And overnight? Right. Your standards are significantly lower than mine.

yes i mean on provonchea notthe rcmp hq on portage.

urban coll it and ando dont bother responding let it rest

provonchea could be better yes.. but inless our city wants to take a lead and push for these old downtown districts in our city to become more of a hub in their areas this will continue to happen.

You are correct, Ajs. The problem is a lack of pride, vision, leadership. Provencher, like many parts of the city, have seen very little change in 20 years. Selkirk Ave, Sargent, etc, will take longer to see revitalization which is easy to comprehend based on numerous factors. Provencher, however, at this point, should be a lot more charming.

The big problem, at this point, is the lack of TIF being available outside of the SHED. From Hartford to Omaha to Boise to Minneapolis, governments in numerous cities have been using this tool for decades, and have expanded it. As usual, the lack of action in Winnipeg has resulted in a lack of transformation.

I don't think you could call the current number of new projects a lack of transformation and be serious.

Winnipeg has unique challenges and should not be compared to cities of 4M or 200K.

You really need to get out of Winnipeg, and experience life in other cities. Population really is not the issue. The issue is the need for government incentives, and when these are limited to one area, the many other neighborhoods in need of such see very little in terms of investment.

This would be a wonderful addition to Provencher; I hope there is a taker soon.
