Not at all. Pop ups are brands that rent a location for a short time, usually a month.

Based on the drawings MountainView posted, I have my fingers crossed this will get built! What a spectacular addition to the skyline this project would be.

More lobbying by Mr. Polowin, meeting the Chair and Vice-Chair of Planning committee
http://ottwatch.ca/lobbying/files/366

Should be interesting to see if/how Trinity uses this as part of their Lebreton Flats site bid.

He is the most active lobbyist by far. Interestingly he never met with the previous councillor or the current councillor.

Area I on my map is the parcel of land south of Bayview Station. AKA 900 Albert. It is owned by Trinity Developments, which is also in partnership with the Sens to put an arena on the Flats. Their parcel is already development approved for two 35-ish storey towers and shorter one. They are negotiating to buy “air rights” over the OTrain Trillium line tracks, right over to Tom Brown arena, but don’t expect to see buildings over the tracks. Instead, they will likely “transfer” the development potential purchased from the city air rights and add them on top of their existing towers, hoping for a Toronto-style hyper-accessible location when both the full-length Confederation and Trillium lines are opened in 2023 (and a LRT to Gatineau too). Yes, I expect approvals for the 50-70 storey range. Whether they get built in my lifetime is another issue.

Developer wants air rights over O-Train line near Bayview

Jon Willing, Ottawa Citizen
Published on: March 8, 2016 | Last Updated: March 8, 2016 7:07 PM EST

Trinity Developments is talking to the city about building over the O-Train Trillium Line near Bayview station, a company executive says.

“We’re negotiating to see if there’s a deal can be struck,” according to Brad Caco, Trinity’s VP of development and design.

Trinity acquired 900 Albert St., a triangular piece of land across from Bayview station beside the City Centre complex. DCR/Phoenix previously owned the land and won council’s approval in 2012 to build a massive office complex, hoping to lease space to the federal government.

Now, Trinity is proposing a mixed-use complex that could span the O-Train tracks and possibly include a sliver of land on the west side of the rail line near Tom Brown Arena. The city has some experience negotiating air rights over the Trillium Line after going through the process with Carleton University for a parking structure.

“We’re blue-skying it right now,” Caco said. “We’re going in with a big-picture thought.”

According to Trinity’s proposed site plan, the development would have three high rises on a multi-level retail podium. There are a few spaces carved out for restaurants and some large retail footprints, which could include a grocery store. There’s also some office space.

Caco calls it a “vertical neighbourhood centre” at a key property where two rail lines will connect. The Confederation Line LRT is scheduled to open in spring 2018 and the area will be bustling with transit commuters.

“It’s the future Yonge and Eglinton of the downtown,” Caco said, referring to the busy Toronto intersection.

Planning applications should be filed at City Hall next week, Caco said. If all the approvals work out, construction could begin in summer 2017, he said.

Public Information Session – 900 Albert Street Redevelopment
March 4, 2016

Invitation from Trinity Development Group:

Public Information Session – 900 Albert Street Redevelopment

You’re invited Tuesday, March 8 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Orpheus Musical Theatre Society – Rice Hall 17 Fairmont Avenue, Ottawa, ON

Dear Resident,

Please join Trinity Development Group and their consultants to participate in preliminary discussions on Trinity’s future vision for the property located at 900 Albert Street, Ottawa.

The property is immediately adjacent to the future Bayview Station, where the Confederation Line and the Trillium Line will intersect. There is a tremendous city-building opportunity here to provide new jobs, homes, and places to play. Trinity is seeking your feedback on the principles and vision for this special development opportunity.

The meeting will be an open-house format, with display boards and opportunities to have informal discussions with Trinity, the consulting team (architects, planners, transportation engineers, and others) and municipal Planning Staff.

The meeting will be held on March 8, 2016 between 6:00pm and 8:00 pm in Rice Hall at the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society located at 17 Fairmont Avenue. A formal presentation will begin at 7:00pm.

Bring it right up to Albert the whole way across (leaving only enough setback room for a row of trees, a doublewide sidewalk and a bike lane), and make the windswept, carsplashed viaduct into a real street, then attitudes might warm considerably.
