As for space, you would be amazed what you can squeeze through old highway stretches. MTO is planning to squeeze through extra lanes through Oshawa on the 401 and Mississauga on the QEW, both of which "have no space" today.

The Oshawa section of the 401 is actually a great point. How many lanes in total are they planning through lanes?

The MTO is planning for an eventual ten lane cross-section along the 401 through Oshawa. The right-of-way is generally there for the increase in lanes, but the interchanges, particularly the interchange at Simcoe Street, are problematic.

Bravo on getting the fact right that Saint John is second largest in the Maritimes. It's third in AC, but since many people call all of AC the Maritimes, that often gets muddled.

Great video. Really happy you west Eastbound through the City...the view at 2:45 is easily the best view from any highway in New Brunswick and really shows off the scale and size of the Uptown.

The 407 East Phase 1 consortium has posted new aerial images of the project. A late December opening is looking extremely unlikely, unfortunately.

The higher speed limit guy is right, it's the speed variance that kills not the speed itself.

There is also another thing to advocate higher speeds..........new drivers. New drivers are only tested going about 95km/hr not the real speed of the highways they will actually drive on. They must be tested on realistic speeds and 100km/hr is anything but realistic.

People use common sense. When was the last time you ever saw anyone go 120 during a snow or rain storm......never. People will go the speed at which they feel comfortable and safe and will naturally reduce their speeds when they feel at risk.

The idea that 100km/hr is the law is also farcical. A law is only a law if it's enforced. It's against the law to j-walk but everybody does it. If a law is not enforced then it becomes nothing more than a suggestion and people then think if I'm breaking the law then who cares if it's by 2km/hr or 20?

As a professional driver, that is not my experience. I see people driving WELL over the limit in inclement conditions all the time. Daily. And it's not just in Alberta.

I laughed at them presenting BC as the province with the highest posted speed limits in the country. They showed Coquihalla Highway (120km/h) but didn't mention the new 8-lane Highway 1 which is ridiculous 90km/h.

Another outstanding production. Great trip down memory lane. I used to take that highway once or twice a week for skiing...back in the late seventies through the late eighties, and then less often. Much more development nowadays along it.

The Port Mann maybe only 90km/hr but that doesn't change the fact that BC has the highest speed limits at 120. The stupid "speed kills" mantra is for regular roads but they glue them all together to make their point. It is head-on collisions which cause the most carnage which is why freeways are the safest roads we have. Few are advocating higher speed limits on regular 2 lane roads but on freeways they should be 120 to 130 depending on the area.

If they greatly increased the speed limit then they could also add that there will be only a max 5 km/hr grace and any speed above that will really get hammered with a speeding ticket that they won't soon forget and include a heavy dose of demerit points.

People criticize that Ontario doesn't have any maximum highway speeds over 90km/h on two lane highways and 100km/h on 4 lane highways and freeways. But you can't criticize the fact that over the past 12 years, Ontario has ranked either first or second among all North American jurisdictions for safest highways and roads.

Excuse me, but safety and speed has nothing to do together.
A slow drunk driver doing 70 on the 401 is more dangerous than a careful driver doing 135-140.

Speed is not killing. Bad drivers habits do.
