Definitely. My only concern is it might clash with the rest of the PTC, which is very much 1990s tech office parky. But I don't mind them trying, and there are still other lots to go.

So I guess their signature item will be the Rapistburger w/Big Ben's special sauce. Also probably lots of good drinks with free added urine for the ladies on Saturday nights.

The Rapistburgher will only be blocks away from Peppi's which features the original Roethlisburgher. I hope there is enough demand for all of these signature meats.

Well they'd hire professional graphic artists but you people would probably charge them some money. And I've heard they really like to keep all of the money.

A solid "second layer" to the PTC is really going to totally change the feel of that stretch of highway/Second Avenue, which is great.

Yup. Imagine a unified urban fabric of the Southside via SS Works over to the PTC down to ALMONO. And now I'd like to pitch my idea again to no one in particular that Bates Street between the PTC and Oakland should have those few buildings torn down and somehow make that a safer passage for all the research scientists or whatever to go from PITT/CMU down to their labs.
I was thinking bus lane, bike lane and perhaps another lane or two for all the daily Oakland passenger traffic. Like a nice, new corridor there.

I'm not sure what you're referring to here. There's only one building off Second between PTC and Almono, and it's set back pretty far from the street near a surface lot. Do you mean tearing down more houses on Bates or on Irvine Street?

You could also do an aerial gondola between Oakland and the PTC--which, by the way, was actually mentioned in the documentation for the Oakland Connector project back in 2010. Eventually that project was replaced by the BRT project, but it remains a good idea for that particular need.

This would be a far superior option to adding more automobile travel lanes, the most inefficient mode of transport.

It is an expandable technology too, so you could start with this as a discrete pilot project and then expand if it goes well.

From the PTC end, for example, you could easily go over to the South Side, and/or you could run it along the river to Downtown and/or Hazelwood (although that makes less use of its difficult-terrain-crossing abilities, it is still a cheap way to add a dedicated transit line to that corridor, which is also constrained in terms of possible land routes by the river and the cliff).

From the Oakland end you could head to CMU, or to the Upper Campus area and ultimately into the Hill.

You're right, I DID mean to tear down the buildings on Bates. I think it's an awful street as is. I think I am counting 12 buildings total that would come down so that the street could be redesigned and rebuilt.

One less, since (IIRC) the Cole Building has been demoed on its own. And given the slope on the eastern side of Bates, you wouldn't want to expand the street in that direction anyway. Those four structures could stick around like this random house on Forbes.

Of course, the XO Cafe and lounge at the bottom of Bates is a fairly popular spot. And there are a few random backwoods streets (Hodge and Mackey) which have access off of Bates. You'd probably have to improve the back side of Ayers to make your plan doable.

I love random houses! And those back streets are fine. (I like Hodge Street since Hodge is the name of my beloved exotic cat :3 ) I think the plan is doable.
