Let's see...

The Rainbow Grill was a restaurant on the 65th floor, they knew me by name (because I was a big tipper).

The "SFA Cafe" on the 8th floor of Saks Fifth Avenue offered great views and I always asked for a table by the window that overlooked the rooftop garden and swimming pool at Rockefeller Plaza across the street.

Now, I admit that it's been several years since I've been to the WTC site because I found the area depressing (plus the subway was frequently being serviced).

In the last illustration, 2 WTC does look really good all lit up at night.
But as we all know, the glaring mistake with that illustration are the other towers under construction.

Add them all and the picture will look even better!

I wonder if it's too late to add 300' to #4. With 2 and 3 being built to full height, 4 is going to disappear.

I'd like to see this tower closer to 1360 feet in height and maybe a few stories taller. This design is really growing on me, especially having seen it from Brooklyn and New Jersey vantage points. This tower does indeed give the World Trade Center the look of "bringing the twin towers back."

I know I expressed criticism earlier on, but now I'm on board!

Now if the folks just down the road from me at the Arceler Mittel plant in Coatesville could erect tridents for the base I'd REALLY be on board!

the DAMAGE this misshapen bad design . .
will do to the composition of the WTC . .
to the NYC skyline - to our collective psyche.

You can grow grass on any ledge . . have zipper signs placed under any overhang.
You can stack boxes into steps any old way till the cows come home . .
But you couldn't come up with a worse case of diarrhea for such a consequential site.
This building says one thing - CRASS.

The deal itself is supposed to be finalized by the end of the year. Then they've got four years to get this tower move in ready, so who knows exactly when, but Silverstein will get his financing following the signing. The good news is that the lower levels are already built.

I like the base. I hope the tower uses a darker colored glass than the current towers to stand out more.

The tower has grown on me.

To be honest, my biggest concern is with the base- particularly in the rendering above. I really hope there's retail all along there. If not, that's a lot of dead street wall in a place that doesn't deserve it (even if it will be constantly busy).

There won't be dead space. The earlier (Foster's version) had that weakness on part of the base. But the design is still somewhat similar. And in either case,
location was going to make for a heavily pedestrian trafficed area.
