^That seems odd. People I know seemed to like the restaurant.

I'd like to give a shout out to Bike Regina's Bike Valet service which was available at the Legislative Grounds for the Canada Day festivities. No hassle of finding a parking spot for the bike and bike with trailer when we went yesterday. Totally awesome.

I also heard from a long-time friend who works at Costco that Costco will be relocating to the east with a massive store. I would bet that a second Costco will be built along the west side after the western section of the perimeter highway is complete between Hwys 1 and 11.

The food at Fortuna was good - but it always lacked something for me.

The long hallway at the front was odd (and decreased the ability of passersby to see inside), and I always felt like I was entering through the kitchen/staff area. the layout of the place & the vibe overall was just wasn't inviting for me. The staff were excellent & very, very friendly in my experience.

My parents loved it & went there regularly... so they'll be disappointed.

EDIT: OK - based on the above, hopefully the renos they're undertaking address the odd layout & vibe I mention above.

I've tried a few times to go but reservations are hard to come by. You have to book way in advance to get a table. The last time I called the lady said they have a few tables that are non-reservation tables and you can "try your luck". I told her I would be trying my luck at a different restaurant.

Fortuna was not my favorite place. The Italian food was too traditional for my tastes. Also it was much more expensive than the chains like Earls or moxies and where you can find more interesting Italian food. Rock Creek across the parking lot had better food for a lot less.

Ps that street needs some trees!!!!!!!

Harvard controls more than half the east side, so of course no trees. There are some very nice trees along the Bank of Canada parking lot just out of the shot.

The city just replaced the sidewalk in front of Malt City and paved over all the tree boxes.

Malt City added a door to that side, and I'm guessing might try putting some outdoor seating? Large tree-boxes might make that impossible considering the space. Generally the city has been pushing more trees downtown and planted a bunch along Lorne after that street's reconstruction.

Yes they did one block of Lorne but are failing miserably every where else downtown. They've cut down more than they have planted. Shame

Costco will not build a second location in Regina until they start selling 2million a day or more consistently. That is their threshold. They are not there. So, they only possible scenarios are that they sell their current location and move east as has been said or they stay put.

My kid works there and they said they have heard that they may be moving east. They would sell the current location in that scenario.

The repaving of the lot and the addition of the pumps wouldn't necessarily preclude them from relocating. They would have budgeted for those improvements years ago. Relocation will still likely be years away IMO.

They announced on their FB page that they are out of business.

I was driving in Harbour Landing tonight and I went past the corner of Parliament and James Hill Rd (where Parliament Ave current ends at its west-most point), and I noticed that it's going to be compressed down to a single lane in the new area to the west (they already have the sidewalks done). So that means there will not be a single 2-lane road west of James Hill Rd or into Harbour Landing West. Really kind of weird and short sighted.

i have it on good authority that Save-on-foods is expanding into Sask. No idea what locations they have selected though.

A major grocery chain is coming to Saskatchewan.

Save-On-Foods has 145 locations in B.C. and Alberta and will unveil its expansion plans for Regina and Saskatchewan on Thursday. It's not yet clear exactly how many new stores will be built in the province.

The western-based grocery retailer says it sources local products first whenever possible and is known for its unique approach to customizing each store to best serve the local community.

It adds this move into the Saskatchewan will create thousands of new jobs.

Downtown at the base of that affordable housing development on Lorne and 11th? They're supposed to be looking for a grocer.
