Salt Lake City: Official Development News Thread - Part 4

Regarding the Regent Street Hotel, I share the (seemingly) universal enthusiasm for the design and overall plan of this project. Like others have commented, I like the mixed-use component, especially for that location, and think it would be a spectactular addition to our city and skyline. However, the one thing that concerns me about the condominium component is the ability to get the project financed. I realize that condos aren't as impossible to finance as they were in 2009-2010, but it seems like they are still more difficult to obtain financing for (which is part of the reason we haven't seen as many developed recently in SLC or other cities). Does anybody have any idea of how they plan to get this project financed? It sounds like there is strong support from the city, and I belive both the hotel and for-sale residential markets are strong enough to warrant the development, I just think that the financing may be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome to get that project out of the ground. Hopefully they have a solid plan in place to get that done.

I personally think that it's a mix of being snobby and judgmental that puts Salt Lake City on the list and so high at #4. Hey, at least Salt Lake City is high on a list and being recognized.

Not sure how this is a silly list. Everyone knows New York is super snobby, as well as DC. Also Dallas has the whole better and bigger in Texas or in this case in Dallas attitude. So Salt Lake City at #4 is a perfect and accurate ranking. Try taking off your Salt Lake colored glasses and you would see it is an accurate ranking. Truth hurts.

Ha... 15th and 15th that's my "posh" hood . Makes me laugh. A bookstore and a Einstein bagels, a fixie bike shop and a shuttered Starbucks, whoa watch out. Sure there's a couple of other restaurants but hardly a cloistered community.

Not great at photoshop, but I wanted to see what the new Hotel/Condos will look like with the 111 behind it. I took this picture on a iPhone 5s and lined up the 111 with the actual frame work that is going up at the moment. The angle is probably off just a little, but it gives you a good idea what it will look like.

Part of me really wonders how log this pace of residential development can continue. Hopefully we aren't over building. I'm curious what the vacancy/occupancy rates of all the new apartment monoliths are east of the CBD. 400 S has quite the urban feel to it in the 300 E, 400 E its really nice.

ETA: I wonder how this hotel proposal will affect the historic building to the north. It still has a very historic lobby and circular staircase, it would be a shame to lose it.

Great job with the hotel condo. The 111 tower is way out of proportion though. That would be like a 30+ story tower from that angle.

The renderings seem to show it being preserved. If you look at the east facing elevations, the building is still there.

Love that hotel design! If they truly wrapped up that Eat-a-Burger parcel, then kudos to them. I know of dozens who have tried to crack that nut but failed due to the owner being, ahem, interesting. They (Form) seem to be a modest firm with some hospitality holdings, based in SLC. I will be cautiously optimistic. It's a biiiig deal.
