I'll freely admit I find his posts frustrating sometimes, but I'll also say that I respect the shit out of him and the challenges his posts have presented have lead me to think harder and better about everything. And, after all, isn't that why we talk?

Late reaction but I agree. I'm all for informative input on these boards but there's no reason to be an asshole about it. What's the point of attacking people when your point has been made, especially if your post has merit? Let your truth speak for itself.

My grandfather owned 356 Main as seen in your old photo. (Top right) The company name is on the side of the building! I remember walking through the marble entranceway as a child. I guess this was taken in the late 50's. It was bought for the Trizec development and demolished...

Interesting to note lots of parking lots in the area even then!

Riverman is dead on, that photo was taken in 1962 according to the source.

As far as I know, that part of downtown (Fort and Garry Sts south of Graham) never really had the downtown density that existed along Portage Ave, Main St and in the Exchange District. At one point it was a small-town residential neighbourhood when Winnipeg was a frontier town clustered around Portage and Main... then the homes were cleared, presumably in anticipation of dramatic new downtown buildings which never arrived. Whenever you see a vintage 20th century photo of the area, it's likely to feature garages, parking lots and that sort of thing.

EllisDon is a large company. As someone previously posted, they're not the best to work for if you're a sub trade. Constant issues. EllisDon was/is in a big lawsuit over the airport.

Either the GC is going for more money for extra work done or the client says there are deficiencies that they want fixed for free.
