Ingledews is having its Moving Sale. Signs say they open in the new location (Hastings & Hornby in the old Bank of Canada Building / Chanel space) in March 2015.

ok. i hope they can do well in the new space, they are kind of a destination compared to most shoe stores, they were always known for having large size shoes

I don't even try to find size 13s in Vancouver. Every store in Washington has tons of them at a fraction of the cost - here you're lucky to find two pairs per store.

way back in the 70's my sister had trouble finding shoes and ingeldews was the go to place, she's only a size 10 womens but it was considered big in the day and they would ship them up north

At size 15 I haven't bought shoes in Vancouver since the mid 90's. Our local Nike stores are pathetic in comparison to the outlet store in Tulalip. Even Toronto has Nike outlets similar to American ones.

Whoa... Just came back from Downtown... A lot of stores are closing down, there are now plenty of for lease signs.

I live downtown, and have lived downtown for 30 years. Stores come and go, there isn't anything 'whoa' about the current state except that a lot of changes are going on...largely for the better. Your perspective is interesting though, you make it sound like we're Detroit or something. Downtown Vancouver is extremely vibrant and busy all the time.

Downtown has a lot of 'for lease' stores? Not that I noticed. In fact, I noticed more empty 'for lease' along West Broadway, even stores from new condo buildings. West Broadway really needs another anchor building around Oak or Granville area: something that would help pull in the crowd.

Oh that's interesting what might the cause be for lower foot traffic? What are the numbers? And where did the stats come from?

And yet many stores are opening flagship locations on the street, requiring considerable investment for renovations. I don't think the issue on Robson is lower foot traffic, I think what is happening is that the street is in a transition period where we will see more elaborate storefronts operated by larger chains.

I agree - the street is in the process f reinvigorating itself to provide bigger and better stores/flagships than Metrotown or other revitalized suburban malls (Guildford) can offer. It needs to provide a unique offering in order to continue to attract crowds.

actually a lot of chains have shut down or are downsizing, like mexx, american eagle has been shutting down and downsizing their stores, bebe shut down and split into 3 spaces instead of one space, one is occupied and i believe the other two are leased already

the old starbucks/artigiano is sitting empty because of the lease clause no one wants to move in there with the clause apparently

and alberni is absorbing any new luxury retailers which are moving into town
