You hear the Toronto subway when walking down Yonge but that's because of how insanely shallow it is. The subway tunnel is literally directly underneath the utility level.

For easy of construction, the city should just build under city roads. That way, even if someone complains, they cant do anything about it because the city owns it.

I thought I read that the tunnel would only be 3-4 metres underground at that location. Wouldn't that be pretty similar to the Yonge line downtown?

The city owns the underground beneath properties, too.. (or rather, I think the province does). Private property rights only extend to the lowest utility level of a property, I think.

The only thing I'm worried about is other people/business would complain with these options.
The O-Train routing shouldn't be considered as that is an operational disaster. Any route that doesn't use the current Transitway at least as far as Westboro should be screened out immediately - Tunney's Pasture must be on the main line, for example, as it is the region's 3rd largest employment area.

Yeah, that is what I thought, but, development sometimes goes down, so if we were to build under the streets there would be no impediments.

I don't view this as a problem.

I agree with you on this. While there would be disruption on Richmond Road and/or Byron Ave it would at least be on city owned property. The additional distance of tunnelling required on the Richmond route is only marginally longer than the proposed route if the LRT crosses the park between Dominion and Richmond Rd at grade or in a trench.

I'm against accomodating this church and these businesses simply on grounds of principle. We can't go changing plans to suit the complaints of each and every whining NIMBY. We need to gain a backbone and tell these nuts to shut up and f**k off and let the city build infrastructure for the benefit of the entire city.

Yes, that is a very good point. But if the City also wants to say that the LRT will bring intensification then there needs to be room to build not only up but down, and that is my major issue with the proposal as is.

If I were Mayor, I'd have a standard-issue form letter to this exact effect. Which, among many other reasons, is why I'll never be Mayor.

If we're building the LRT for the good of the majority, then just put it under or on Byron and be done with it! The City owns this property, no expropriation issues, and it's close to people & businesses on Richmond Rd.

What kind of sorcery is required for those photos and links of Confederation Line construction to actually work?

It was originally supposed to be completed in 2019, back when the City was planning on running the construction. But when Watson changed it to a P3 in 2011, the projected completion date was moved up to 2018.

The Confederation Line 2015 "look ahead" is out, and it contains some interesting info about the detours. They're being moved up by a few months. Blair->Hurdman detour begins in June (it was originally supposed to begin in October), while first part of the Scott Street detour begins in December (originally supposed to begin in February or March of 2016 IIRC).

I wonder if they are attempting to get this opened for 2017. Obviously, a lot of things will have to go right and it is way too premature to make any sort of announcement but it would be a big feather in Jim Watson's hat if this were to happen.
