With all due respect Councillor, this answer is troubling. You approved 250 units as an experiment? A project like this would not have been approved in the South End. This was only passed because you need to support something after so many 5 and 6 storey rejections on Coburg, Windsor, etc.
Not only is it 50% non-market, it is 85% one-bedroom or less. This aspect also wouldn't fly anywhere else on the peninsula. You've now set a dangerous precedent for the area, even though everyone agrees that a detailed planning strategy is needed for this area because of the potential for rapid change.
Now you've approved a risky project, set a dangerous precedent, and discounted the Centre Plan process. Further, HRM no authority to ensure the units are subsidized. Why would this community have any trust for staff or Council when they hold future public consultation for the Centre Plan as requested only a few months ago by Watts.
This may work out. But it may also be a major screwup. Any Council would not have supported such a project anywhere but Gottingen.
