So, I guess all the earthworks that are happening by the airport/QE2 overpass are for Cross Iron Mills mall North. Heard this from someone today, the claim's veracity of which I still need to confirm. That will be interesting. Supposed to include direct access to the as-of-yet uninhabited STARS/Medevac building from the highway and include an access ramp for a new highway toward Calmar (assuming it'll join up with the existing highway just west of Leduc).

Yes there are plans for renovation, but it will not to fast. They are replacing some of the HVAC system first. Also doing asbestos abatement

I have heard the same thing a few months ago, but that is just rumour too. Wouldn't surprise me. I was at YYC the other day and I didnt see any retail just lots of cargo/ warehouse type development. Too each their own I guess, but I would rather see warehouses and cross dock facilities going up rather than a reptition of South Edmonton Common.

But those have been built in the last 1-2 yrs. There used to be absolutely nothing beside runway 12/30, and there's also been acitivity along 02/20. South Edmonton Common is a zoo most of the time so I'm sure another mall wouldn't exactly hurt it.

My point is ERAA has been talking about Port Alberta for many years and so far all that is physically visible at the airport is 1 cargo building under construction. The other activity is new hangars. In YYC there are several cargo related buildings that have been built and several under construction, with more being planned.

I forgot ERAA has a cool new video too.

It will not be a Cross Iron Mills mall...if I recall it will be a mix of retail, office and hotels...but not an enclosed mall.

Still not necessarily highest and best use of the and, except perhaps hotels and office, unless this and is surplus to the core purpose of the lands.

It seems that Gates 8 through 12 wil only just be used in case there's an IROP (eg: weather related) and there's no gates left for the aircraft to park at. As far as renovations to that boarding lounge area, I didn't get information about it.

That is what I have heard as well. Business Park and Hotels.

Thank goodness for that. I was implying that it's allegedly the same operators as those of Cross Iron Mills.

Given its context, yes it is. It will be no different than what has and is developing around YYC, YVR or YYZ. There is a smattering of industrial warehouisng, hotels, retail, and office buildings around the airport.

Lufthansa Changes in Germany

Not currently related to EIA - but impacting travellers from YEG into points in Europe. Note than Berlin is not mentioned - rather puzzling.

"Lufthansa is transferring its point-to-point services that are not operated through the Frankfurt and Munich hubs to a unified business model under the Germanwings brand." ... "Lufthansa German Airlines will then focus on its hub and long-haul carrier business model.".

Sounds like the new Air Canada model....

iPhone Travels

The iPhone 5 that I ordered unlocked from Apple is being delivered to me by UPS and is seeing way to many airports!. I assume after Richmond it is now heading to Edmonton. You would think UPS would have a customs clearance facility in Edmonton?? 5 weeks after order!! and 2 more than promised. I should have it on the 17th according to Apple and UPS website.

Rather puzzling all of the UPS routing...so much for the Apple supply chain being efficient. Why UPS does not transport from China to Canada or Korea to Canada rather than transporting through the US simply adds cost and inconvenience to customers. To bad Port Alberta is not operating as a customs free zone.

This routing is a zigzag not hub and spoke - and involves 4 countries. I can not see the need to route through 3 US cities and then to Vancouver and finally Edmonton. Apple stupidly are contracting with UPS instead of FedEx or DHL...and everyone in stuck paying for this logistics nightmare.
