OK - I got first hand info.... it was yesterday's LH 495 - Passengers were boarded in and then pulled off - 2.5 hrs on the ground, engine problem, flight cancelled, and they have been told that some parts need to be fly in from Germany. Today's LH 494 also arrived. My buddy, who was on the plane asked to come back tomorrow.

Antonov 124 just arrived from Leipzig. It looked awesome busting through the clouds with condensation all along the top of the wing.

Yup, only 4 minutes! I went over to watch her depart. Pulls into position, increases thrust slightly from idle, holds that for about 2 minutes (while checking control surfaces), then the thrust went up again and the flaps came down further, finally announced they were good to go and got the t/o clearance after about another minute waiting for traffic on 28 to land.

She got airborne sooner than usual, but they were only off to Anchorage so I am guessing not as close to MTW as some other times.

Wee_YYC just tweeted me.... Lufthansa Cargo flight arriving YYC at 1.45 PM this afternoon. It should be a MD11 (they have only MD11s in cargo fleet)

Correction - Flightaware says it is a 744 - may be a third party aircraft flying for LH Cargo???

Definitely was a 744, saw one parked on the cargo apron as I came back into Calgary on the QE2 yesterday evening. It should be leaving this morning to Chateauroux:

I love it; I can't remember ever seeing large turbofans spewing that much black smoke. Again: "Gooood Rashin' Tieknalagee".

AC has just released its winter 2011/2012 schedules.

Bit of a yawn actually.

No major changes other than the already known losses of YXU and SFO.

Because of those losses, YYC will have fewer than 40 daily mainline flights (including int'l). First time I have seen that since winter 2006.

YXE is the only other route with any signficant change. Down 1 daily rotation to 6 instead of 7 (lower on weekends of course).

Other mentionable items:

YCG losing its weekend service (so 5 weekly). First time I have ever seen that.

More E90 flying throughout Western Canada.

All other routes are status quo except the odd weekly frequency tweek up or down.

Overall net loss to YYC is 17 fewer frequencies per week compared to last winter for the Air Canada Group.
