I suspect this was done for the City of Edmonton as a conceptual exercise for our 'quarters' (east downtown) project.

^^ IIRC, that's correct. It was meant to show what would be possible with the proposed zoning and the closure of the airport.

Just more compact; that is if you're not making the assumption that North York Centre is playing the Century City role.

I revised one of my renders from a while back.

I increased the heights of ICE I and II. As well I added Infinity 4 and the Southcore complex of the Delta Hotel and Bremner Tower.

ICE is huge!!! for tourists it'll be the centerpiece of toronto's skyline and they'll probably think its our tallest building! it makes trump looks puny too

L tower would be to the right of Success Tower or a little to the left of and behind of, World Trade Centre condos on Yonge Street..

not sure..

^I thought a lot about L Tower when I originally made that render. My judgment call was that it would be behind the two Success towers and only its top left point would be visible. I figured because so much would be hidden and the rest would blend in with Success, as to be confusing...

...But for authenticity I really should put it in.

Well, still its a great render, and there are other perspectives you can work with where the L Tower would be visible.

The illusion that ICE looks the tallest in the city from the lake made me think of what 45 Bay will look like if the rumoured 245 m height is correct. That's taller than ICE and about the same distance from the lake as ICE.

It would block out TD Canada Trust in that pic above and create a new 'peak' in our skyline from this vantage point.

I don't mind it blocking TD Canada Trust, it's the garbage to the south that's the big eye sore though. Those 4 waterfront condo buildings are an utter disaster.

i like the texture, all glass then it would look as boring as ... well no need to call any all glass cities out.

the concrete brutalism by the lake makes for some visual variety, and i dont mind them as much as i hate BCE Place/Brookfield Place

Ah, I have little aversion to the use of concrete, but hate those condos. They have always ruined the skyline for me. I try to squint to blur them out when looking at Toronto from the lake, but it doesn't work. I don't think I'll ever be able to fully enjoy the lake view as long as they exist.

I'd support any government initiative that would fund their demolition even if it raised my taxes by $200/year for the next 10 years.

i agree, the sheer bulkiness some of them have is ruining this view for me. and since there isn't alot of density right up to the lake, these towers dominate, it makes it even worse.

I like the 1970s resort feel of the mid-seventies towers although I could do without the parking podium. The 1990s additions are what I could do without. The towers are pretty decent PoMo but they extend the length of the complex and take a lot away from the original towers.

I couldn't think of something as ludicrous as paying more taxes to have them removed.

It'd be nice to see Edmonton clean up like that, but how many of those are under construction today?
