Chicago was eliminated in the FIRST ROUND of voting.

Tokyo was eliminated in the second.

Looks like it's Rio vs Madrid. My money is on Rio.

With Barcelona hosting the games in 92', Europe itself hosting in 2012, South America never having hosted the games, how can it not be Rio?

i was watching it this morning too...a bit shocked that Chicago was eliminated so soon in the race, a lot of people are shocked.

And it's a bit scary how much influence former IOC president Juan Antonio Sammaranch has on the IOC (it appears that he wanted to see his nation, Spain, host the Games again for the last time before he dies...he's 90 years old). He was the reason why Beijing got the 2008 Games, he did an awful lot of pleading to dozens and dozens and dozens of IOC members to vote for the Chinese.

Spain should not get the games. I mean, the 2012 games are in London. Yet South America STILL hasn't hosted? C'mon!!

(and is it just me or is ssp rife with bad script the last couple of days?)

^It's not just you.

I too was surprised that Chicago was knocked out first round. I was expecting it to come down to it and Rio in the end. At this point I'm hoping for Rio to get them but I haven't looked into any of the bids other than Chicago's so I'm not sure which city (Madrid or Rio) has the better bid.

I bet you now that Americans now turn sour to the Olympic movement because they felt they were entitled to a games. Let's hope I am proven to be wrong.

only the "fear the socialists" and "screw the UN" crowd. And the Olympics all seems a bit too global for them anyhow .

But in general I think the US realizes they've gotten quite a few Games over the years. A huge number, come to think of it, even in my lifetime. 3 in the past 2 decades at this point?

The games are quickly becoming a political joke. The biggest example was Beijing's win over Toronto. It's all politics. I thought it was all money, but Chicago would have brought the IOC a lot more money.

Oh well, at least Vancouver is getting it's chance before it becomes a total joke.

Of course it is. It's voted on. And don't think money doesn't have anything to do with it.
