Nashville, TN

I just got back from a trip to Tennessee to attend one of my best friend's graduation at UT Knoxville. I had a couple of hours to kill in Nashville before my bus trip to Knoxville. Here are the results.

A church in an office building is almost as bad as a church in a shopping center

One of many to come...

Another distraction...

Hmmm...I just don't know about that

Always hogging the spotlight

Demanding to be seen...even in reflection

This last photo I took in 2006 I believe on another trip to visit my friend and I had stayed one night in Nashville. I always liked it!

Great shots of a cool town!

For the record, this building is the bane of my existence. It seems like there is one in every city.

This may be the most comprehensive downtown Nashville thread I've seen on this forum. Excellent work man. Thanks for the photos of my home town.

Yes, very comprehensive. Many older downtown buildings I have never seen before: Some great stone and brick structures. Nashville seems to have great bones.

BTW Stepper, just FYI, don't expect too many responses. Nashville isn't cool enough to deserve them apparently. lol

Any idea what movie...or perhaps a music video, they were filming in Printers Alley there?

Another quick side note...it'd be great if they'd get rid of all the overhead powerlines, but I've heard that it costs a lot of money due to the massive limestone plateau Nashville sits on.

Nashville is so underrated, people talk here only about Atlanta and Charlotte but I can obviously see there are other interesting cities in the Southern part of the country!

Thanks for all the comments! This was my second time in Nashville and it is a nice city.

It DOES seem to be quite popular. I saw one similar in Atlanta last year and there were two or three in Charlotte

No, I couldn't tell what they were filming. A music video is a good guess though.

Atlanta IS in another league. But, I flew home out of Charlotte and got to explore it as well and, while Charlotte has a lot of great modern buildings, I didn't see much in the way of older buildings downtown. Nothing like Nashville, which should be given credit for the great stock of old, stone and brick buildings it has. The BellSouth (now AT&T) building though is one of my favorite modern skyscrapers.

That all seems to be the fault of Novare, the Atlanta developers who have chosen that as their signature aesthetic for all their residential projects.

Great pics! Too bad you didn't have enough time to venture across the highway to Midtown. There's a ton a good infill going along West End Avenue.

Blame Novare. All of their towers look very similar and generic.

The Preds are somewhere in the bottom ten in the league in attendance averaging just over 15,000 per game. However, Preds fans are widely considered to be some of the loudest, most involved, passionate fans in the game, particularly when it comes to making noise in the arena.

This is the best Nashville thread posted! I love all Tennessee cities. I will agree, they are all under-rated. Thank you for The Pinnacle update. The Pinnacle is among my favorite buildings under construction and few updates are posted on the building's thread in the construction section. This city is experiencing a large amount of construction.

The shape that blocks of older buildings are in is a real feature here. Haven't been there since the 80s but it looks nicer now.

Nashville is the only major TN city I haven't been to. We skipped it last fall. Hmmm, looks alot more interesting that I thought and a good stock of pre-war buildings (which I was quite suprised were virtually non-existent in Charlotte).

Is that new tower a Cesar Pelli? Looks alot like his most recent works (IFC, Goldman-Sachs, SF Transbay).

I don't recall seeing Nashville on here too often. That was an awesome thread, Stepper!

For some reason I kept getting kicked out of the forum trying to post a meassage on this thread. Looks like the third time is a charm tho.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures.

No, it is a Pickard Chilton design.
