As an "insider" at H&M..I was too surprised when they announced the South Common opening. But apparently its a move by the company as an experiment in a big box centre.. as it's the 1st in Canada to be in one. Disappointing nonetheless.
Don't be let down by this one though. There's plans to open at least one more store in Edmonton (not allowed to say where) by the new year and the company is agressively expanding in Western Canada. Look how many stores are in the GTA - I'm sure Edmonton can expect at least a few more in the next few years.

Maybe first in Western Canada, but I know of one out here in Ontario... mind you, I guess it kind of is a mall... i dunno now to be honest.

Unknown "Building 33" on UofA Campus Map

Hello, I already posted this exact thing on C2E, but I was wondering if anybody knows what that Building 33 is in on the UofA campus map:

http://www.campusmap.ualberta.ca/index.cfm?campus=1&sector=2

It is under construction, and located directly south of the EAS building, east of the Chem East building, west of Tory. It is an ideal location for a great building. What is going up right now appears to be a 1 story temporary modular building, but it looks rather good. Is it extra student space?

Also, bonus points for anybody who has any information on the Chemical & Materials Engineering building renovations. Any renders/plans? The budget looks to be about $9 M according to the billboard on 114St. thanks.

^thanks. pretty nice construction office...wonder if it might be turned over to the university when CCIS is finished...then the university could use it for more student space until a proper building can be constructed on that site.

What was building 33 before? It always looked like some sort of abandoned green house or something.

Nothing confirmed for the next one... Its all a matter of likelihood.. I was more referring to the other few ideas I have heard from people who had been to head office recently. Probably a little more exciting than what everyone expects. But they're just ideas at this point

No, it is sickening how many great retailers choose our crappy locations when they'd do fine in a much more accessible location. I'm not crying over it, what's done is done, but that doesn't make it a good choice, or that we should just accept that. Just accepting crap has gotten us no where, it gave us the Venetian, whoo.

From a retailer perspective SEC is far far far from a crappy location. It costs millions for companies that size to open new stores...they don't just do it adhoc wherever they feel like. A number of things are considered when chosing the right locations.
