Photo Contest #85 - in the subway station (Jan 14)

Congratulations to Surrealplaces for the win in photo contest #84 urban aerial.

Your quest for the next round is:

in the subway station

As almost always:

Send a PM to HomeInMyShoes with your entry
Entries must be in by January 14th (Wednesday) midnight
One entry per forumer, must be your own photo
Try not to enter a photo already entered in a previous contest
Your entry should work inside of the IMG tags (pbase is giving me some problems). If I have to rehost it will get resized to 800 in my freebie photobucket account.
Maximum size is 1024 x 1024
Include a photo title in your message if you have and want a title
Avoid over-photoshopping stuff. It's okay to do those adjustements like colour and balance and cropping you'd do if you were physically printing it, but no giraffes on an iceberg kind of thing. I'm not going to say no to an entry because of it. Voters can decide for themselves what's acceptable themselves.
First come first serve. If we reach the maximum 25 entries and yours is the 26th received, too bad. Unless there's a lot, in which case we might do a play-in preliminary round of images I think are less likely to actually win. Hey, someone needs to make a judgement call. If you don't like it, think of the rating systems in college athletics and how bad this could be.

We ain't got no subway stations in our little town.

Is this limited to strictly subterranean stations? Or could I post something from an elevated, above-ground rail station?

lol! I guess it puts the Calgary photographers at a disadvantage. I don't have any good shots myself, but I thought it would make for an interesting subject.

When I chose the subject I had both underground and above ground in mind.

Shoot, I already sent my entry in that was a shot of a below-ground station before I had a chance to see these responses, but it probably the one that I would have sent in anyway if both types of stations were included.

Sub means below so I would have assumed below ground rail station too.

I'm not overly strict on subject matter when it comes to entries. I think it should be up to the voters to sort out what both a good interpretation of the subject matter and good execution of the image. Given the fact that most cities don't build subways, but light rail that is mainly above ground I would think light rail stations in somewhat underground circumstances would be reasonable in this case. I also think the Subway restaurant concept is hilarious and a valid interpretation.

It says "in the", so items in a subway station are valid as well. Whether that be people, cars, signs, stairwells, whatever.

Ack. I'm in Milwaukee right now (nothing to even substitute for a subway station) and I don't go back to NY until the 14th.

The subway is just everyday life to me. I took a few when I first moved there but they're nothing to enter a competition with.

It's everyday life to a lot of people, but an interesting piece of urban environment none-the-less. At any rate, my jest was intended to touch on how great I thought your photography thread was and that any picture of a subway among those photographs would likely be worthy of entry in the competition.

I do understand that there is a difference between photographing something for the sake of documentation versus taking a photograph as a work of art, so I get what you're saying.

My photos are for my own documentation, though, not really for art. I've just gotten good at taking them so they look good. I've taken far fewer photos in NY than I have in Milwaukee, especially the past year as I found myself taking photos of the most mundane street corners in Milwaukee so I could never forget them. I only really take photos in NY when I go someplace really unique to me-for example I've only taken photos from the Manhattan Bridge on only one occasion, even though I've crossed it on foot or bicycle countless times.
