is the starbucks on robson across from the mcdonalds going to close since the new one is opening up a block away?

I believe that starbucks on robson is a union location and starbucks has been known to close the union ones when they open a "bigger better" store

such as they did on denman - they shut the union store down and opened the new one at english bay a couple blocks to the south

I saw they are putting up a new Bell sign on top of Bentall V today. Will be kind of nice to have another big corporate logo atop the skyline in the CBD.

I also snapped a pic of that tipped over houseboat in Coal Harbour:

If it was last year I would say probably not. But since they are closing a lot of stores and trying to save money anywhere, perhaps.

Not really an update, but they're opening up another Waves a block north of Main and Hastings. There's already one a block south. Where's the Starbucks?

Was there ever a Bell logo on Bentall 5 before?
Because the old logo would have gone really well with the architecture IMO

The new Bell logo was still sitting there out in front of Cactus Club. Kind of odd to just leave it there for a few days - practically an invitation for graffiti. (I imagine the sign isn't cheap either)

I guess they couldn't get it up on New Year's Eve (that's what she said.

Yes I agree, I love fever's last shot. At first glance I thought it was Toronto because of the "messy" urbanism at the bottom of the picture.

How tall is "Ginger" going to be? I've never heard of that development.

I moved to montreal after growing up in vancouver, and there are probably only about 10 - 20 starbucks for a population twice the size of vancouver. Agreed that it is nice to have competition, and we have some cafés that are modelled on the west coast style of super-high quality, that have more atmosphere and better drinks than starbucks, java-u and café art java spring to mind, but the truth is that 95 % of the so-called "small business café" are crap.

I love the fact that no matter where i am travelling in vancouver, there is a plentitude of starbucks en route and i never have fear that if i arrive 20 mins early at my destination, i have a familiar place to have a latté. In montreal, if you are going to a new neighbourhood, it is IMPOSSIBLE sometimes to find a good café. Starbucks adds so much class and community and revitilizes streets in neighbourhoods that otherwise would be serviced by nothing other than a corner store.

I welcome the day that starbucks expands in montreal, i think it did wonders for street life in vancouver in more out-of-the way neighbourhoods and it will do the same here.

Oh and to add my 2 cents to another thread that was active last week, Tim Hortons DOES SUCK!

i thought that the starbucks in montreal were all franchised and not corporate owned by starbucks like they are here - starbucks never wanted to spend the money or something to venture into quebec so they licensed the name and stuff

is that still the case?
