Funny, I delete the image and now I get responses.

The image is huge and sucks massive bandwidth, and I'm saving that bandwidth for the large San Francisco aerial shots I just posted in the main theatre right now.

I might put it up again later if anyone actually cares to see it.

I'm an idiot...I forgot that I have unlimited bandwidth now at Photobucket and I'm only using 11% of my total album storage capacity.

I put the image back up.

Its crazy/depressing to see how few trees downtown has compared to the rest of the city.

I would love to see all the empty fields south of downtown fill up with four to six story flats, art galleries, theatre(s), and shops. Right now, it looks sad, like the skeletal remains and ashes of neighborhoods that existed once upon a time.

The angle of the shot has a lot to do with the way this looks. Downtown in the foreground, and particularly south of downtown, looks even more barren, while North Central and Arcadia are at their greenest at this angle, with the distance making the area look like a giant forest. Additionally, many of those areas are or were flood-irrigated, adding to the overall green impression.

^me too! (phxsprawlers post)
The area seems perfect for art galleries and architect offices and little nichey projects and such.
As for trees, I thought the same thing- Looking North in all the older subdivisions, it is troubling to see how green everything is and then how brown everything is Downtown.
Plant some frickin trees already!

BTW Andrew, Arcadia is not shown in the pic.

Thanks for photo Don.

Some observations from the photo:

1. The lighter concrete poured for the LRT has really changed the look of Central.

2. Looking north from this angle, 44 Monroe and the rising 1CPE are completely hidden, unfortunately.

3. Even though it's been noted many times here and elsewhere, the number of dirt lots in and around downtown is still a shock.

4. Being somewhat older and more established, Phoenix still looks lush from the air when compared to Las Vegas (plus, Phx does get a bit more rain: 8" vs. 4").

5. Although not completely visible in the photo, I hope the state can find the funds to revamp the Capitol district as planned for the 2012 centennial--it really needs a redo. However, with revenues falling fast during this economic downturn, that may just be a pipe dream.

That's one cool huge pic.

This photo also helps put into perspective what a massive crater the Cityscape site is right now.
